|
|
Recruiters outside of Japan usually send papers and forms of potential employees by air mail to Japan. Those of us who get offers also have to send documents to Japan for our CoE application.
There's a good chance a lot of those forms are totally lost now.
Luckily, I haven't sent out my CoE forms out to ECC yet. If I sent it Thursday or Friday there's a good chance it would have been displaced.
Are my assumptions correct?
I hope all the staff and students at these schools haven't been affected. It's so sad |

Unless you were really unlucky and your forms got washed away in one of the tsunami-hit areas I'm not really following why you think they would have got lost? In most of Japan things really are pretty much business as usual, and Japan Post is pretty efficient. I would be surprised if this situation delays the international post very much, if at all. |

So Torontonians believe that the entire country of Japan is either on fire or underwater now! |

The chances that your forms were in the coastal Tohoku region are pretty minute as most paperwork would be processed by head offices in major cities.
I think you can probably expect delays though, depending on which part of Japan you were going to, since some areas are having power outages and some businesses are staying closed extra days etc.
I have heard that Japan Post and some courier companies will be reducing their parcel pick-up services for a while, but not sure how this will affect the sending of documents.
So basically, documents lost: I really doubt it. Processing delayed: quite possible. |

I agree with Apsara. Delayed perhaps, but not likely lost if it was going to head office (and I don't see the locating an HQ up in some of the remote places worst affected)
I dropped some stuff in the mail on Thursday night to go to Tokyo (meaning it was probably collected on Friday).
And even with my crazy scribble that was the address completely written in English, a series of horrific natural disasters, the blackouts and fuel shortages in some parts, I still got an email today saying that my bits had been received.
So despite the rather dire circumstances at the moment, for most it is business (relatively) as normal and for the time being at least, the postal system seems to be working just fine.
Are you perhaps trying to justify why you haven't yet sent out bits that you have been asked to send? |

Haha - not trying to justify at all - I've been waiting to pick up my renewed passport it takes a few days!
Thanks all for the assurance! It's good to hear! |

Hey! I have a question (sorry to hijack the forum >_<)
Once you receive your COE and take it to the Japanese Embassy, how long does it usually take for them to process your visa? |

Here in the UK they aim to get CoE related Visas done in 3 working days. God knows what it's like now though. Not sure about the US. |

In the US it depends on the embassy/consulate (I remember reading up on this a while ago).
They can take anywhere from a day to a week so you need to check on the site for the specific location you want to get the COE processed at. |

Oh ok, Yeah I was looking at it just now and there is a HUGH difference between the time it takes Washington D.C's Embassy and the time it takes Atlanta, Georgia's Embassy. Atlanta is MUCH faster... and I can mail it instead of driving there from North Carolina. Thank's lot! |

Just a further update on Japan Post:
I've just come home to find a very pleasant surprise... a video game package that had been dispatched from the UK on March 9th has arrived today. That's only 6 days by standard post! It normally takes just over a week, but I was expecting it to take a bit longer due to the current crisis. But it got here early.
So that is definately a good sign about how the postal system is holding up here. |

That's awesome! They mailed my COE on Monday (Japan Time) so I'm hoping I can get it soon so I can get this process rolling.

Same in Atlanta and I can mail it. But 4 days in Washington D.C and I can't mail it. So Atlanta it is it seems. |
