I'm starting to have second thoughts about working in China.

You are entitled to do whatever you like, regardless of what the naysayers spew.
Ask almost any teacher in China if they do side work and you will get a positive answer. Ask same teacher if his own school ever asked him to do side work unrelated to the school and you will most likely get an affirmative answer.
So do what you want and keep it to yourself. |

if you start with THAT attitude you will be one of those that get here, stay 3 weeks, and leave with their tail between their legs.

I am pretty sure it is illegal to receive untaxed and unregistered payment.

One of my regular SIDE JOBS states in the contract that THEY PAY all taxes and the negotiated amount is after tax. With that said, one would assume it is taxed AND registered income - or at least it is the employer's liability. |

| Legally entering China to "teach yoga" would unlikely qualify for a Foreign Expert Certificate. I find it difficult to believe that China would even issue a Z visa for such a "job" anyway. |
I made it pretty clear in the original post that my intention was to enter China with a full-time contract to teach English. Thus my FEC and visa would be issued for that job.
Again, thanks to those who gave useful replies. |

"I'm sorry officer - I didn't know it was against the law"
Look
it's fine
I do it sometimes
but then I *don't* complain about
- Chinese people being corrupt
- Chinese people being uncivilised
- Foreigners engaging in illegal revenue generation in my own country
because that would make me a hypocrite. |

This is China. Who actually follows the rules here anyway? |
