As of late September, I shall be joining your ranks. Contract signing has just been completed, so I will be starting work at TBI Kuningan at the beginning of October. I am excited! Currently I'm in Lampung (EF), it's fine but I'm getting quite ready to move on to where greater opportunity lies...
Anyway, what do you do in your spare time over there in the big durian?
And, anything you can tell me about life in Jakarta will also be great to know too...
Also, how long did it take you to settle in there? Get a good circle of friends going?
Cheers,
Lizzie |

Well, apart from the ubiquitous malls, there's Kemang for nightlife, some of which is of a far better quality than that of the average Indo city. A good few pubs scattered around do half decent live music too. Quite a few big name bands play the city also.
The two Blitz cinemas are great if you're after non Hollywood alternatives to the usual stuff that cinema 21 shows, too. |

Congratulations Flicka,
A good place to find an answer to your question would probably be the living in Indonesia website.
www.livinginindonesiaforum.org
If you are not already a member, their forum has lots of information about life in the big durian. Also, there are several ESL teachers who regularly post on there. You never know, you may even bump in a future colleague.
All the best. |

ITC/Mal Ambassador will become your 'local' as far as grocery, clothes and dvd shopping goes. I imagine you'll form friends/networks through your new work colleagues. If you choose to live in Taman Rasuna or one of the kosts around Jl. Karet Pedurenan, you'll likely form friendships there as well.
Spare time options, it's really up to you. A busway ride heading south will bring you to Ragunan Zoo in 25 minutes. Worth at least one trip (go early, preferably on a weekday). Plenty of gyms around and bars within 10-20 minutes. |
