Unless you specifically want to move into a Hong Kong Education Dep't sponsored NET job, I don't think you'll need more than your current qualifications (I assume B.Ed at a minimum, as you've been working in Oz?) and experience.
If you are majorly masochistic, you could work in a language centre/ cram school in cr@p conditions for 15K (HK$) a month or less, but in your shoes I would be looking at the international / ESF schools. I'm not sure about current salary rates, but 20 years ago at one of the Big 3 international schools - also a specialist trained primary teacher with 10+ years experience - I was on a 30K+ package, including a decent housing allowance & full private medical, but not including the 13th month's pay for completing a year's contract Note that salaries here are monthly. Also, there are a lot more international schools here now, including an Australian one (running NSW curriculum, I believe).
With the maximum local tax rate being <16%, and not needing a car, it was a very cushy life indeed (but, bizarre as it seems, I actually got sick of it within a few years ...) |
