Happy New Year to everybody.
I haven't been on the forum for months so my apology if my comment below has been previously addressed.
Has anybody heard very much about this recruiter? I thought the number of contact hours is high...and the bit about being called to teach anywhere in the Kingdom sounds really crazy. |

Thought I'd re-ask the same question, Canadian IP Group seems to be heavily advertising on Dave's, but I can't turn up any information working for them anywhere on the web... |

Dear themuths,
It might - or it might not. You do realize that the Saudi forum is being blocked now in the Kingdom, right?
Regards,

I just meant that it's been four months since originally asked... with no reply - plus their ads sounded more than a bit shady to me. I did actually have a different Saudi company not contact me for a month and then send a contract without answering any questions... I think no contact for an inordinate amount of time ought to be a pretty big 'red flag' though.
But you are right, the political and social climate has also been changing dramatically. Actually altered my own work plans, was really thinking the Middle East but decided on Hong Kong instead.
Good luck with your job search,
Anderson |

This company has recently requested a full medical screening. I must pay for it and "they"will reimburse me. Nothing about them seems at all on the up and up. I say avoid them like the plague. |

This example does not constitute any proof. It is very common, in fact the norm, with the best employers in Saudi that you have to get the required medical exams and be reimbursed after you arrive.
In fact, this means that they intend to get you a legitimate working visa (iqama). It would be more evidence of their not being on the "up and up" if they told you to come with no medical exam and just show up.
What a new employee needs to confirm is whether they have reimbursed these costs to teachers already there.

Don't know why anyone in their right mind would without a contract in his hand go to the expense of a complete physical just on the word that "sure we will pay you back' but does not quote how much they will reimburse for the physical nor do they give any details as to when you might go on a payroll. Again who would do this? |

The physical for Saudi visas are usually at your own expense and are then reimbursed either upon arrival in the Kingdom or in your first pay-check. This is fairly standard.
What I'd be more concerned about is the lack of contract. One of two things could be inferred from this, either (a) they're a new outfit in the Kingdom and they're having probs, or (b) they're going towards bizz-visas, which is not a good idea if you are intending to be there for longer than 3 months.
If I were you, I'd try to go with one of the better known entities based in the King-doom.

Contracted in late 2009 to work for a company in Saudi. They flew me to Houston from Bangkok, put me up at the Hyatt for five nights while my visa was being processed, paid for my full physical and put me up for a night in Dubai. If a company wants you then this is the way to prove it. Canadianipgroup is not someone on whom I would waste my time. |

Just out of curiosity... how many people have encountered this process? How many employers will do this? Just the one that hired you? Houston makes it sound like ARAMCO direct hire, which is a VERY rare gig to get.

Shoot, tell me about it. I want to know too. That sounds like a hella good company to work for Cadet. Any company willing to pay for your flight to Houston (my hometown btw) from Bangkok, and put you up at the Hyatt (a very nice hotel in downtown Houston), and then fly you out again to the Mid East sounds great in my book.
Do share please. I am a resident here in Brazil, and I'd love to get ins on something like this |

Yes, that does sound like ARAMCO, maybe Raytheon direct hire (from Texas); or if from UK then BAE direct. But such things are quite rare nowadays (many more agencies now than in the '90s) and always hard to nail.
Avoid any company that does not provide you with a contract upfront.
