I'm starting out my TESL career hopefully in late summer, but I still haven't completely decided where to start. I love working with children, but I have to pay my student loans in the US and was worried perhaps teaching children doesn't pay as much. (My student loan payments will be around $500 USD per month Sad )

Am I going in the wrong direction here?

Do most jobs involve teaching a variety of ages?

Has anyone had a good experience with a school where they taught children AND made a bit of money? If so, where?

I'll have a BA and TESL cert. by the time I leave (TESL cert. involves 60 hours in class practice)

Your TESOL cert is too short. Get a 100 (minimum) hour cert and then go to the Korean forum.

http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/

It is pain to get through the paperwork for Korea but it is also just about the ONLY place that a newbie can make enough cash to deal with that large of a student loan payment and not need to come up with $3000+ to get settled and started.

I agree with ttom about the TESL cert. definately upgrade this as this investment will help you land a position with a higher salary.

I would also suggest Vietnam as a place to work to earn some money. Many of the reputable language schools around (ILA, Language Link, Apollo) will accept you with a degree and CELTA (or equivalent). You will also get to do alot of work with kids too.

Further to this you could also look into the summer school programmes run by these bigger centres (exclusively for kids during regular schools summer vacation). They usually run for just over 2 month June-> early August and will offer flights, accomodation a bonus and enough hours a month (100+) to give you a couple of very nice pay cheques...
