Few more posts like that attempting to explain the purpose of certain threads and ya might make moderator!

I'm not sure which post you were discussing, was it the following?

Quote:
No, I think this thread is here for one purpose - to educate the less experienced here about a VERY REAL threat/scam that is focused on separating the Tay and their hard-earned cash!

I am interested in taking over from Mr K, where do I send my CV?

I also did not know that this very real threat/scam was focussed on Tay(Westerners only), forget about other expats or the Vietnamese.
Furthermore, ATM machines are also a problem according to another poster, again just for tay-westerners not other nationalities.
The theory of Us against them again?

Quote:
Actually there are quite a few rip-off techniques that go on in Vietnam, both at the simple street level and on up the ladder, with employers and institutions.

Indeed there are, but going to the bank to withdraw money or change foreign currency into Vietnamese Dong is not one of them.

Can't comment-no details.Again!

It's unfortunate that the mad hatter edited I mean deleted his post trying to discredit me stating that I was not a native speaker etc, please post it again so we can evaluate it, quite interesting.

The facts again- when one needs to go to the bank in Vietnam do as you would in any other country. Pay attention and count your money and you will have few if any issues. The tellers count the money right in front of you.

As I stated before, counterfeits are very rare in Vietnam. In fact, they are so rare that it is difficult to find them. I try to buy as many counterfeits as possible because I have a friend who collects counterfeit notes in the states. I have been able to buy 4 notes in 3 years. So for all of you who have apparently been scammed by the banks-please pm me and i will be happy to buy them from you-2-5 times the value based on the condition etc. of course I wont receive a single message because they don't have any fake notes! LOL

Regarding marked or torn notes, again rare to get from banks but one will get them in day-to-day transactions- and not that difficult to pass on.

Quote:
And in a way, I think drawing people's attention to rare-but-troublesome events is useful, as is pointing out the rarity of such events.

I fully agree, in particular, in pointing out the rarity of such events which is rarely done on this forum- is that because some posters are more interested in distortions and fabrications-ENTERTAINMENT instead of giving readers information based on reality.

Whats the next discussion?

Purchasing bad petrol at gas stations
the possibility of a major earthquake in Vietnam,
tsunami in Vung Tau
eating radiated food from japan
being overcharged 2000 vnd for bananas
tay paying more for train/air tickets even though its the same price for everyone
Yeah yeah yeah-unfortunatly the rant is not over-keep the stories coming!!

I forgot to include the following in my previous post, I and possibly others would be interested in the rip-off techniques that schools use to take advantage of their teachers.

Please inform us of the details, can you please include the technique and the name of the school, when it happened, basically facts, not Glen Beck conspiracy theories- if there are no facts, in particular facts that can be evaluated not what somebody told you etc-no facts-well let's turn this site into an entertainment venue for the posters since I suspect the majority of readers would prefer reality in order to help them make proper decisions

In addition, what about the lies and techniques that teachers use to take advantage of their employers- oh i forgot, this site is only about crimes, scams etc against teachers not the other way around! LOL

My wife is Vietnamese and my mother-in-law and my sisters-in-law and my brothers-in-law AND this has also happened to them. So,... so much for your "Tay" theory.

Rare? Yeah, maybe. But I did use the phrase "a few times" and when compared to a USA bank, the answer would be never!

I find your insinuations insulting and would brand you "a drama queen"

Unfortunately, you misunderstood the above statement. Dont take it personally, it happens to the best of us. I was disagreeing with the theory. Please read the statement again, pay close attention to the quotes and who wrote them. You may want to edit your post after you understand the my statement.

I also agreed with the post about other scams etc.

May I suggest that a visit to the eye doctor is necessary, exchage the rosecolored glasses for reading glasses-if you are not too busy, please pm the poster who gets insulted due to a lack of reading comprehension-he may want a pair.

I would love to know how long Drama Queen has been here. How long did it take for him to become an expert? My guess is that he has been here for less than a year. Typical newbie comments.

OMG let me apologise for not answering your post in detail. Basically, its easier for me to teach you logic, common sense in a classroom situation.
Please pm me and I will give you the hourly rate. I can send you a TNA document that you can complete so we can tailor the programme to your specific needs.

Andy123-you may also want to enroll in the course, since anyone who has read my posts on this site, would have a clear understanding that I have been in HCMC a long time.

Just to make it clear, I am not a clinical psychologist, so you should seek someone else for your other pathologies.

Regarding the totalitarian technique of debate, deflecting attention from reality, orwell would be impressed but would probably make stalin cringe.

In fact-the rant(vulgar propaganda) is over for you guys-this thread should be closed, it's going nowhere.

Bayoemdi ( means now shut up ! in Vietnamese) -Aren't you starting to make personal comments again. Weren't you warned about this before?
Im sure you're familiar with the rules of this forum- discuss ideas not people that post them. And this is where Im a little stuck:
Quote:
This thread is here for one purpose-to misinform readers about the banking system in Vietnam, in particular, to provide negative information to prospective teachers etc about Vietnam. If it isn't, why mention something about a country if it rarely and possibly never happens? I would also like to clarify that this thread is not about the black market, buying usd etc thats on a different thread.

The facts-foreigners in Vietnam will not have any issues concerning exchange rates(state bank of vietnam exchage rate)-when selling foreign currency-counterfeits are rare in Vietnam, a few issues with torn or marked notes, but generally easy to pass on depending on the transaction.
Methinks he doth protesteth too much.
Why would anyone come to the conclusion that the thread is to discredit the entire banking system of a country when in fact it has only mentioned one bank ? I wont mention it because I do not believe in causing bank runs, and I have no personal experience with this bank. But I digress. meanwhile, - the bank in question may actually be doing such things . How would you know? How can you prove it never happens? The burden of proof is on you to find a way to counter these claims, since the poster already gave a personal account. Do you understand how basic speech argument works? you cant dismiss someone out of hand. Such blanket dismissals of another's claims are not a part of debate. Have you ever taken rudimentary debate course? its a sport where I come from and a popular pasttime for young and old alike! really!.

Then you make the point that it all should be about black market exchange- when in fact its just about one actual bank. So why try and deflect the point? The thread posted talked about purchasing currency at a bank. Not black markets. Teachers after all aren't illegal in any way shape or form. They want to use official means whenever possible. Are you directing teaches to shop for currency (dollars which cant be gotten easily) at black markets?
And finally, you make the point that expats can always sell their foreign currency anywhere at the legitimate rate. Ah ha!. Don't you see? thats not the issue. The issue is unequal exchange is systemic, and always its a one way street. Expat getting tapped. Expat getting the short shrift. No recourse.
Your example only proves this. You claim that all is well and everything is just fine and fair because everyone can sell their foreign currency for Dong.
A lie of omission when buying dollars is the real matter. Everyone knows they can buy Vietnam Dong no problem. Buying dollars is the real issue And it is at a usurious rate, when anyone can even get them at all.
By the way. You should read the many reportages of scams and swindles on both a corporate and local level that appear in your newspaper, at great risk to the reporters who publish them. Congratulations on your command of English !.Do you need a teacher?

Oh please - your highness teach me all that I lack, as I'm such a lowly creature not deserving of your greatness and omnipotence. But let me humbly inquire, will you be bringing your high-horse?

Let me run to drain all my bank accounts and seek out personel loans as I'm sure I certainly will be found lacking when attempting to pay your fare. Perhaps you could find it within your graciousness to allow me to pay it out?

And why wouldn't you offer to help all of us poor mislead Tay-westerners to be lead from darkness into the light?

Fortunately, another poster saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
