The CBC is rumoured to be sacking Don Cherry from Hockey Night in Canada after 20 odd years (pun intended). Given the fact that every single piece of apparel he owns "Clashes", what do you think: should he stay or should he go? |

Well past his best-by date, and would have been gone a long time ago but for his straightman. The problem is that they really don't have anyone to replace him. |

Legend. The man tells it how it is but everyone is trying to be so politically correct and culturally sensitive that hes getting looked down upon for doing what he has always did. If Don ever leaves HNIC I hope its cause he quits on air and tells em all where to go!! |

Cherry has balls. Because of this, they want to get rid of him. Sickening really. |

Don Cherry is a legend for a reason. He's awesome. The man knows his stuff and he tells it 'like it is'. Not too many people have the guts to do that anymore and that's why he is so loved here. If he were a pompous @ss spouting off BS, no one would bother tuning in to Coach's Corner. However, he has a massive fan following, which speaks volumes. If CBC terminates him, they'll live to regret it. JMHO |

I love Don too. He's the most honest man on TV and doesn't care who he p!sses off. I think he is funny is usually right too. |

Capergirl as replacement!!!
Anyway don't they know Grapes is more popular than hockey at least during the regular season. It's the 7-second delay they had to slap on him is the problem. And it's an embarrassment to the outgoing president.
He won't go quietly so watch the fight. He may be 70 but he doesn't want to leave.
I vote Hrudey as replacement..oops I mean Capergirl. |

I love Don's outspokenness too, but I feel that the game has changed since he started his schick and Mr. Cherry hasn't. Europeans are making an impact in the NHL. Visors are becoming popular by NA players who want to protect their eyes. Hockey violence is getting out of hand. I could go on...
Fact is though, the CBC hasn't really got replacement for him lined up yet. Maybe Kelly Hrudey, who has some chemistry with Ron, can fill the void when the time comes for Don to "retire". |

Grapes being ejected from HNIC is not a new story. It has circulated behind the scenes for a few years now. My guess is that he'll stay as long as he retains a certain freshness for the mass audience. I like him, and I often get a kick out of him. He raises many issues and I agree with a great deal of the points he makes. It must be added that Ron Maclean makes a perfect partner for Mr. Cherry. They really play off each other well and have a good onscreen chemistry. The only knock I have against him is when his schtick runs amok and the original point gets lost in the bluster. At that point, Coach's Corner becomes a sideshow. JMHO.

For a non-hockey fan from Canada, I watch HNIC for him and him alone. I could care less about the game or the 3-stars. Cherry makes it all worth while.
I agree that he should tell them where to go on air. That would be priceless. |

I think he is past his prime. He is too biased against QMJHL players and Europeans. Funny at times though. |

For anyone who doesn't know him, check out Don and his sidekick Ron McLean on "Coach's Corner" at http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hnic/coach.html |
