Hi everyone. I have an offer to work in Uthai Thani. I am a newbie and a first time teacher. Is 35000 baht a month plus free accomadation a good offer? Is Uthai Thani a good place to teach? Is the food cheap? Is it tourist friendly, like Koh Samui? Please help. I need to contact them ASAP. Thanks.

It is not a bad region to work in. Personally, I LIKE west central Thailand. I am in the neighboring province.

It is not really "tourist" friendly; there aren't many tourists that go there.
You will be treated like a teacher and not like a tourist. Unless you turn out to be an azz or behave like one, you will get a decent reputation in your town and quickly be recognized by your local merchants and others as a part of your community.

35k is a decent wage (quite comfortable) after you get your comfort things bought and you get settled in.

Rents on a decent apartment run about 3000 baht if you don't like the supplied housing and can get a housing allowance. Internet will cost you less than 1000 baht (3BB). Unless you are crazy with the A/C your electric will run less than 2000. If you don't have A/C it will be about 500. Water will run about 100.

Meals out (local) will cost between 25-40 baht per meal (plus beverages).
Meals out (western) will cost about 200-250 per plate (plus beverages).
I am pretty sure there is a KFC and a pizza 1112 in town. Not much else for "western" fast food.

A van (mini bus) to BKK will cost less than 200 baht. Regular bus is about 120-150. It takes about 3-4 hours by bus and about 2 hours by car to get to BKK.

The salary is not bad for the area, but be sure to check out that housing before you decide on anything. It could very well be a dump!

As for it being tourist friendly, like Koh Samui, just forget that nonsense! Tourists don't go there very much. That can be a good and bad thing in that the costs can be cheaper for many things, but the same types of services (such as transportation) cannot be as easily found. It's difficult to get around without your own mode of transport in many parts of Thailand, especiaally outside of the cities. It can leave you feeling isolated or in the mood for buying a 'moto cy' pretty quick.
