About me: MA in Education, first year of full time teaching, American female Very Happy .

In brief:

750 KD monthly

Benefits:

Furnished single accommodation

Medical Insurance

Return air ticket annually

One way air ticket at the beginning and end of contract

Transportation from school to accommodation

Settling-in allowance at the beginning of contract KD 150

Baggage Allowance at the beginning and end of contract up to KD 100

End of service indemnity as per Kuwait Labor Law

Apparently they also handle the visas.

You thoughts? Thank you:)

Some other thoughts[/b]: I was hired after submitting my resume, student teaching reports, and an over the phone interview with an admin...is this standard hiring practise in your experience? When I arrive I am expected to verify my teaching certification. I am worried about most of all the reputation of this school, it seems from the reading I have done here the opinions are very mixed.

Very low offer, from a school with a dodgy reputation.

Look around. There's still time.

I am not sure what to think anymore Sad Others in Kuwait I have sought advice from have said that's a pretty good offer in terms of pay.

I too have read mixed things about this school. In your opinion is the school itself dodgy or is it the neighbourhood it's in?

My main concern is not to be taken atvantage of legally or professionally.

Cheers,

Sohniye

Put it this way, 700 KD is what schools were offering 6 years ago. As far as the school goes, the reputation is not good with regards to the way the school is run and the treatment of teachers.
Have you looked at Dasman Model School? Even A'Takamul would pay you more than that and treat you much better.

yes the pay is low for Kuwait, especially if you have a masters.

Although it seems you have no experience so Im not surprised.

I dont think Ive heard of a teacher coming to Kuwait with NO experience before.

How could you not have any experience in teaching prior to doing a masters in education? Its seems really strange.

@winterwind

Why strange......in the UK one can finish a BA or BSc and proceed directly on to a Masters course. Then one can go directly to a PhD course......not everyone does a BA or BSc and works for 10 years before doing their masters.

re ABS- stay away, it is one of the sh8ttier schools in Kuwait with a nightmare Gaddafi like management.

It may not be "strange" but it also isn't that common. For instance, in the US you can do the same if you are unbelievably wealthy... but most of us couldn't afford to go straight through from BA to MA to PhD. I think most of us have to work a few years to, first off, save up the money to continue on... or... perhaps clarify what we really want to be when we grow up.

And then some of us never figure that out, so we become TEFL teachers. Cool

I would love to say I am unbelievably weathly but that's not the case---I just have lofty student loan debt. Took two years to work in Corporate America/Japan before I took on my MA.

Worked as an 'Aboriginal Education Officer' for two years while doing my Masters Degree + teaching practicums. It is invaluable experience but is not traditional 'classroom' experience.

BTW this thread is about KBS and not ABS...but it wouldn't suprise me if both have a bad rep.
