Hello everyone. I need some advice on where to find immediate employment with a degree and experience but no TESOL cert. Oh btw I am also 56 years old.(' Wink

') I've been looking in the Chiang Mai area with predictable difficulty. My girlfriend is willing to relocate to Bangkok or elsewhere in Thailand with me so we could use some advice, even from all you young whipper-snappers out there, about specifically which schools would consider my application. Any constructive suggestions are welcomed, but I need the names of specific schools. Thanks so much.

Thank you for the low-down on the approaching over-pass, tttom. However I am needing some names of schools to approach. I do not wish to waste my time, effort, and money visiting schools I have no chance of getting a job with. So specifically where can I best concentrate my efforts? Exactly which schools will accept my qualifications? I have given up on Chiang Mai. I worked in Bangkok before and have been to Thailand many times and I know I might be able to support myself on 35k.

Also, I thought the weeks leading up to Songkran was the prime hiring season and to not bother afterward. What's up with that? I have actually met with staff at many places and had interviews. So I don't think they are all on break.

How could I possibly have been misunderstood? I merely requested the names of some schools that would be willing to take on someone my age with the qualifications I have. The sticking issues are my age and the lack of a TESOL certificate. Chasing all over Bangkok only to be told by a school that they require a TEFL cert and only want someone under 40 is a waste of resources. Ageism and the lack of a particular qualification have been matters discussed in depth on this website. So the issue is not whether I want to put out the effort for a job search. I have been. I mentioned that. And I know looking in the tourist traps is also a waste of resources. The only reason I have been looking in Chiang Mai is because this is where my fiancee lives. So now Bangkok is the next place for me to look. I just would like to know where to begin.

All I asked for was the names of some schools. Specific schools. That is not rocket science. Advice like you gave is good, but that is not what I was really asking nor needing.

And another thing. I am a native English speaker.

And one more thing. "You just want to get picked up off an internet forum?" I was only asking for information like most people have been doing on Dave's. Your remark is insulting and disingenuous. And it is most certainly not helpful.

We can't give you names of schools looking for ESL teachers on the forums.
(they are required to buy advertising in the jobs forum to find teachers).

To help your job prospects, have you considered getting a CELTA or 120 hour TEFL?

I was about to sign onto the one here in Hang Dong but the funds fell through. So now I'm in the position of trying some work first and then doing the CELTA. I've met others who were attempting the same reverse order. Of course I would prefer doing the course before taking a job but as it is I have no choice.

btw- I found a part-time temporary gig in CM with some uni students.
