And another: BLOODY AGES!!!!

I applied for mine from here in Japan day before yesterday, and Im hoping I can get it before my temporary visitor status poops out on May 12. Otherwise, Ill be spending one night of Golden Week at Incheon Airport this year. Thankfully, this site (http://www.sleepinginairports.net/asia/seoul.htm) rated Incheon a best airport runner-up for overnight campouts. Ill also have to buy an outbound ticket to somewhere else and hope I can get it refunded or cancelled after coming back to Japan.

Why? You don't have to leave if your visa application is in.

I won't ask why you dredged up a 4-year-old thread.

Thats the clincher. I have to wait for the COE before I can apply for the change in status, and I can still get bounced out of the country while the COE is being processed.

Have you verified that with immigration? I don't think you have to leave while waiting for the COE.

Yup! I verified it. They told me at the dreaded S counter, though, that going to Korea and coming back during Golden Week was okay. I was hoping Id be allowed to stay for the COE processing, but that would be the reasonable thing to do, so la migra japonesa would never do such a thing. ^_^
