Hi all.

I'm close to the moment of reckoning for doing a month long intensive Trinity Cert in Edinburgh, Scotland. I'm counting out my pennies, searching for loads of cheap B&B rooms, dorms, basic downmarket hotels and the like, but sadly I've noticed that it is going to cost more than I originally thought.

Although I'll have saved the course fees and a couple of hundred extra by my targeted admission date (early July). I doubt I will have enough for a single room without going into debt more than i'd like. I'm unemployed atm and likely will be again after the course so teh poorz is strong and deep in me Sad

My question is, would I be able to slum it in budget youth hostel dorms or similars places or would the intensity of the course be too much to consider doing that? For reference I can sleep through an earthquake and have what can only be described as a "gift" for sleeping. I'm serious by the way lol. My only issue is whether i'd struggle to fit in all the other stuff I have to do on the course.
Or should I break out the credit card again and wallop the cost of a single room on that?

I can always postpone it three months later and get a single room but the July date is perfect for a multitude of reasons one of the main ones that it's during a small gap in open uni courses so i'd ideally want to do that one if possible. Thanks again.

As the course provider if they have accomodations available. Mine did, and it was cheaper than a hostel. Nicer and quieter as well.

I will do NG. I'm not hopeful though after looking through the website i'm sure they gave a list of possible choices and it was all private. For example homestays, B&B, etc. There is no mention of any "default" accommodations.

Maybe they would have some cheap wee places or deals hidden away somewhere so i'll ask. In your opinion would it be impossible to do the course while dorming it if the worst came to the worst? Thanks.

You should check with local colleges and education providers local to you. My local 6th form college, a state school, also offers other courses for adult education and this includes CELTA courses WITH GOVERNMENT SUPPORT. Its worth doing some research and seeing if such a program and opportunity may apply in your case.

I wouldnt have chosen to live away from home, sharing a dorm room etc etc for my Trinity course, but plenty of people do. I know you have been around the forum enough to know everyone says the course is 'the more stressful four weeks of your life'. Well, TBH, I think most of the stress is caused by living away from home, not having easy access to internet/computer, meeting new people and going out etc. The course itself isnt that hard buddy, and isnt any harder or more challenging than your OU material (IMO).

Most people do study it away from home, so my comments can be disregarded to some degree. I did my course with one guy who had a homestay which he shared with some korean students who were studying at the school we trained out. I remember him staying on the school premises in the evening doing work in their library. I preferred my lifestyle of sitting on my parents sofa eating my fathers homecooking and using his ultra fast broadband to do my assignments. Very Happy

There's a college that does the part time Trinity Cert over 9 months within a mile from my house in Glasgow. The only thing is I wouldn't get my qualification until May or June 2012 if I recall correctly. I would get it almost free if I got accepted but June 2012 ooofffft!!! Sad

I think i'd prefer just to pay and do it earlier so I can move of with my life. That, and I feel that the 4 week intensive may be better suited to my personality. If I get too long to stew on things it's worse than if I'm under pressure imo.

Ok. I'm leaning towards going for July course in Edniburgh and just doing what I have to do if that means dorms and late nights at the centre or elsewhere so be it. A dorm will likely be quieter and more spacious than my family home tbh lol. I'll contact the centre and see what the reccommend.
