My passport situation is almost resolved, but to comment on the drifted topic....
My parents may visit us after the summer but I'm arranging for us to meet in Bangkok (we met in KL last year) as I don't think they'd like to stay in Hanoi more than 5 minutes. They weren't previously particularly impressed with Beijing's hospitality, fearless inconsiderate drivers, noise, and pollution, and I think things are worse in Hanoi and my father would eventually get into a fight after being scammed for the nth time.
I lived in several countries and traveled to dozens but it's taking me longer to warm to Hanoi than anywhere else (except Manila, perhaps). I think the key is to enjoy the convenience of the city during the week and try to leave it every weekend |
