Hats off to the Mexican board! It is the 4th most active on Dave's, after Japan, China, and Taiwan. I wonder why it's so active though. Mexico, as wonderful as it is, can't possibly be in the top 4 for ESL jobs worldwide. Is it that its proximity to the US makes it the default choice for many adventurers? Does it have an unusually high number of power posters? Is Mexico a country of such extremes that it is a magnet for discussion? Is this board full of combative personalities who cant agree on anything? MOD EDIT

I think it's a little of all of the above. I am sure many from the US and probably several other countries check it out first. I know I did long before I joined.

But for a day or two I thought the announcement had brought postings to a halt! Shocked

Yeah, me too.

One thing i was wonder is why the Mexico board requires a split. The China board has off topic and a job board. China also is home to over a billion people so i can see why a split is required. Mexico though? What is the real need to divide a country board that, if we put our egos aside, is not a world leader in ESL jobs. The Japan, Saudi Arabian and Taiwan boards dont have divided boards and they are just as active as the Mexican board. So again, what makes Mexico's split required? Why the need to separate Mexican work threads with threads on life in Mexico?

I think it has to do with how active the board is, rather than how many TEFL jobs there are in the country. I regard it as a compliment to the enthusiasm and energy of all those who participate in this forum Smile !

I agree, its a compliment. But other boards are more active than ours but have not been bestowed a similar compliment. Our enthusiasm doesn't explain it. Why not the Japan board? Why not the Taiwan board? What makes this board stand out?

That's a good question, tpg. What does others think?

We have a large proportion of non-ESL-related discussion compared to most other country forums?

Not really the case. When you look through other boards they tend to discuss off topic stuff just as much as we do.

I thought all our discussions were "on-topic" as the price of produce at the market or the latest round of narco-insurgency have a direct effect on life and as a result EFL in Mexico.

It has been one month since we were informed of this new off topic forum and it still isn't up and running. Does anyone know what's happening with it?
