She is Turkish. She has 15 class hours per week. Other duties included testing and such. She didn't have to be at school all day if that is what you want to know. She was placed in the East of Turkey a real shit hole. Part of a Government program to educate the East. That is about all I know as me and her are no longer on speaking terms. Sorry

More amd more people are coming up with the theory that this whole idea is just a bit of pre election posturing and it just ain't gonna happen. generally state schools just don't employ foreign staff and I really think sending some smuck fresh out of teacher training college to the east of Turkey to teach is gonna make a great idea for a comedy reality show. Sorry I won't believe this untill I actually see it.

Hey-love the comedy show idea (reality could be traumatic). It could be about a young female newbie teacher who just happens to be Melungeon. After managing to get all the girls into school and buying them all pencils (sponsored by a burger chain) she then falls in love with unmarried handsome villager, who happens to also be a long lost relative, who has a penchant for crossing borders at night, ostensşibly collecting carpets from uncle Ahmet across the valley. Then, after dealing with being a "gelin" etc etc, she later has to deal with with three other-unofficial-wives. Sort of "Big Love" meets "Tek Turkiye." Loads of potential in that one!

Have to agree about the pre-election promises. Mind you, why was that Canadian recruitment agency advertising positions? The plot thickens Laughing

Have mailed It's Academic (the recruitment agency in Canada offering the jobs in state schools here) asking them about the wages etc and for more info. Let's see if they reply.
Maybe the wages they are quoting are calculated on having to work both the morning and afternoon shifts at state schools (from 7 am to 5pm?), so basically you'd be doing two jobs. All very strange

Got a reply from the recruitment agency and it turns out the wages in the ad below were a general overview of what could be earned in Turkey
So who's earning that much in a school here? Certainly not anyone I know!

Here's the ad in full anyway (have no idea how much Canadian dollars are worth today-sorry 4,000 Canadian dollars= roughly 5,000 tl a month? BIG money)

Overview: Established, reputable public and private high schools located in the major cities across Turkey, including Istanbul and Anchora, require certified and experienced Canadian teachers to teach ESL for one year contracts starting September 2011. B.Ed. and/or B.A and TESL certification required.

Contract Terms: Minimum 1 year contracts starting September 2010, includes a monthly salary ranging between (CAD$1500-CAD$4000) average pay CAD$2500-$3000. Well, I did an interview at a private school in Izmir.. They pay 1,800 usd, which equals 2,700 tl. with house ,not bad. I don't see how run down public schools are going to double the going rate. Half of them are too cheap to repaint the building every couple years. Talked to a few colleaques about this,, and they all say the same thing pre ellection hog wash.
