Does anyone live in Guanajuato, Guanajuato or travel there frequently? I'm looking for a hotel there for one night next month. I would prefer it to be located in or near the center of town, clean, and quiet.

I'm also looking for cheap lodging, preferably no more than 400 pesos per night. Also, it would be good if they could provide me with a factura.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

The place I like to stay is called "Hostal del Truco" and is on the callejon on the right side of the cathedral, about four or five doors past the Truco 7 restaurant. It is very quiet and if it is a weeknight and not a holiday, you can ask for a dormitory to yourself and they will charge the hostal rate of about 120 pesos. It is not popular with the younger crowd, but has loads of character and you can cook your breakfast downstairs, the location is excellent. Hotels in Guanajuato are in general overpriced, for what you get... Casa Klooster is the most popular if you want lots of company, you go out of the Plaza de la Paz and down the stairs to the right of the restaurant "Canasta de Flores". These places probably don't give facturas but anywhere that does would charge at least 400 pesos I would guess. If you want a more hotel experience, one of the most economical hotel hotels would be Hotel Casa Mexicana which is on the way to Embajadoras, you head towards Sangre de Cristo where the Teatro Cervantes is, the "Bar Fly" is in the same building. I haven't stayed there, but it is popular and well located. There is an ESL school there too. Up in Plaza Mexiamora above and to the right of the Teatro Principal there are a couple of neat little places too that are not that expensive, I can't think of their names for the moment... There are a few hostals on the Cantaranas plaza street, but they are really cheap and probably not very quiet...

Yeah, pretty much what ton a bricks said. Truco is a nice hostel and the restaurant there is pretty delicious.

I was told by my friend there to ask for an interior room at most hotels in the center of town because of the noise there. I ended up going with Camino de Villaseca, which is about 5 minutes outside the centro. They charged me a little more ($560) because of their vacation rates, but, hey, it's tax-deductible, and I hear it's clean and quiet, so I'm okay with it.

Why is a night in a hotel tax-deductible? Are you going to Guanajuato on business?

Yes, it's a business trip to meet up with a translator I collaborate with. Of course I'll do some fun stuff while I'm there Very Happy

Have a good time! I should start thinking of ways to combine business with travel too.

But you only get a reimbursement for the IVA you spend on the hotel, not the whole price of the hotel, no? So in the end, you don't really save so much by going to a h otel that gives facturas unless it is very reasonable already...

I just called my accountant, who told me that a portion of VAT is deducted, as well as portions of the other taxes I pay for the month. So, the deduction includes more than just VAT.
