I am thinking of coming to Taiwan soon and will have VERY little cash if I do make it (after airfare and various expenses). How would one go about finding a host family?? is this arranged through a recruiter?

Host family? You are coming here to get a job, not going on student exchange. Most here have their own appartment.

Dear Teacher,

Look for a job that includes accommodation. It won't be very nice (usually), but it will save you money, time, and hassles.

I got mine here at eslcafe. I just wandered over to the "Making Friends" / "Language Exchange" section, made fast friends with a (semi)rich girl who happens to run a buxiban, and moseyed on over when the appropriate time came.

And don't let your mind wander. We never even THOUGHT about doing the Horizontal Bop. We remain strictly platonic (I hate that word) and professional friends.

Those days were kinda fun, actually: Just about every night after our respective classes, it was just like a pajama party. We would drag out our pillows, sprawl ourselves and our books in the Family Tatami, and ask each other questions about each other's respective languages.

Dang, how I miss those days.
