About working for Vinnell...... In the compound living , in the permanent villa, does each person have their own bathroom with their bedroom or is the bathroom now shared with the others in the villa.
You said in your description of your staying in Vinnell that each person has their own bedroom and BATHROOM.
Is this still the same? The answer to me matters much as I prefer to have my own bathroom as I'm sure most would. |

Dear bluemoray,
I think you may have misread a post of mine. I never worked for Vinnell although I knew people that did (and still d0.)
I visited the compound, but that was many years ago. So. I'm afraid I can't answer your question.
Sorry,
John |

bluemoray,
I currently work for Vinnell.
None of the bathrooms are shared. In the 3 bedroom villas the room#1 (master bedroom) has a bathroom inside the room. At the opposite end of the hall, room#3, the bathroom is outside the room but right next to it. The middle bedroom, room#2 which is used for temporary quarters until you are moved to a permanent room, the bathroom is on the other side of the villa through the kitchen. It is smaller than the other two bathroom but it is private and it is only temporary.
The configuration for the 4 bedroom villas is similar.
If you are in a 3 bedroom villa you should expect to have one other permanent villamate and occasionally a temporary villamate in room#2. If you are in a 4 bedroom villa you should expect to have 2 permanent villamates and a similar situation with the room#2.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. |

About Vinnell,
I understand it is a military situation there and one needs to adjust to this military way of doing things, but I'm not sure as to what other lifestyle changes there would be.
I know about the uniforms and getting boots and now I know about the villa situation thanks to your explanation......but are there some strict rules about other things I should know about.
Okay.......take me thru my day/routine there.
I get up quite early before 5am to eat breakfast and take the transport to work (I'm told by the time I arrive they will have a better transport to work with new sudans or something with better A/C this is currently) then teach starting at 7:15am until 11:50am and I'm there until 2:30pm or so or leave earlier...not sure.
Then go back to compound and the transport stops at Camp Vinnell or the ROC compound and then I can walk about freely on the compound in civilian clothes.
They use DLI materials which is meant for the US military in mind....which will be different than other methods and I guess you will show me that.
I know about hair and no beard.
I just want to get into a comfortable routine there.
Is there any other major adjustment I need to know on top of normal adjustments living in KSA cultural or otherwise... which I already know...I mean more very specific to being at Vinnell only ....not just KSA.
Thank you again |

I think you pretty much hit most of the points already. Just keep in mind that it is a very structured grammar and vocabulary based curriculum. You are expected to stick to the material although there is still plenty of opportunity to inject your own personality into the teaching of the material. |

Inject? That's military alright.
Or a trip to the doctor.
But peace out.
English is, after all, a story of conflicts. |
