Clearly there is no shortage of part-time, evenings or weekend work in Shanghai. I have put up adds on many different ESL sites, and gotten a lot of reply's from business schools and recruiters. After 3 years in China I have enjoyed the fact the my life today has nothing to do with them.

However now that I am trying to move to Shanghai, I can't find anything in a real school. Even the recruiters can only offer business schools in Shanghai.

I am not down and out yet, but I did expect that by now I would have found a few good posts/ads.

I goggled Shanghai, ESL, Resume, Job and hit up and applied to most of the search results.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

I don't know your credentials, experience, specialties, and goals. What level do you want to teach? Subjects? If you're a Native English speaker, have at least a BA degree, and two years teaching experience, then PM me.

I'll introduce you to someone who works in the Shanghai Education Bureau.
If you're willing to teach in schools near Shanghai, I can introduce you to someone else. Good luck!

I am in a smaller city near Nanjing, not even tier 2. I have been teaching high school for 3 years at the same school.

I was originally going to be in Japan next year, but my school was in the north east. I haven't been able to get much info from them, but they wont be needing me now.

Anyway, I have a few friends from Canada working in Shanghai, and a few more in Hong Kong who always seam to be in Shanghai as well.

I have my BA, 3 years experience and I have been working legally in China these past 3 years with a good recommendation from my last school. I would prefer to teach high school or University. Kindergarten is something I have no desire to do, I can't say I have ever been a fan of other people's kids.

Try finding the schools directly and emailing anyone that looks like a possible contact, attaching a resume/CV. Many of the links will no doubt be useless, but it's a start and you won't likely be baited and switched. Also, I'm sure you are aware that many (most?) universities that have a city in the name have moved to a suburb. Good luck.

A user named bearcanada made some excellent posts about finding good jobs in Shanghai. Use the search features to find them.

Yes, thank you. That is the main plan, since I have a reliable Chinese translator ( my Girlfriend ) who has some vested interest in my job placement.

However she does have her own job to worry about, I am trying to get as much done on my own.

Oh man, bearcanada has a lot of post and opinions...
