I am just wondering, how long is the spring festival break around January-February for public schools/ universities?

I know it probably varies from place to place but it would be great if someone gave me a few ranges.

Furthermore, are there any other holidays at public schools which are a week or longer?

The official length of public holidays is easily found with a web search

I know public schools (primary, middle, high) that follow the lengths, others that add a few days here or there, including universities. Spring Festival falls during Winter Break, so you cannot focus on the "holiday" period as it is included with the normal between-semester break.

There is only ONE "golden week" and no holidays "longer" than a week !

This weekend is May Day (Labor Day - falling on Sunday) and is officially a ONE day holiday (Monday)

This is a good thing to have up on your wall in China.

You can fill in the extra days and the makeup days that your school intends to observe.
Quiz your students as a holiday nears. Don't expect the school/FAO to tell you until the last minute. Not always their fault as often the college boss keeps everyone dangling.

University students and teachers enjoy a longer break than middle schools during the Lunar New Year. Usually a person can expect about one month, a couple of weeks before and a couple weeks after the actual holiday.

On the subject of winter break make sure you are paid for it and find out how you will be paid if the holiday covers a payday.
At my last school they promised to try to lodge the pay in the FT's bank accounts, but in the end didn't.
There were teachers traveling in the far reaches of China expecting the local ATMs to cough up after payday.
Very embarrassing.
School said (on return) 'we promised to try' not 'promised to do'.
Getting paid in advance is the best way.

I'd say you'd probably get around six weeks. Early to mid January through to late Feb.

University jobs offer long holidays. I guess I get over three months a year. Also, I always have three day weekends. I never have class on Friday.

two month summer holiday, two month winter holiday, several national holidays interspersed here and there. Light work schedule. Few people ever get stressed out at university jobs in China.

It depends on what school you work for. At my first school, they felt that the students would be better off finishing the FT's class early so they could spend more time studying for their exams. I finished the semester two weeks before the normal end of the semester. I still got paid for this period and had no complaints.

Don't take 10 month contracts.

The length of the contract isn't up to the employee. University contracts typically run from the beginning of September till mid-July the following year, and that's what you'll be paid for.

If you choose to stay a second year at the same place the next contract will run for the same period as the first one, and some schools will pay you for the summer holiday in between. But it's still a ten month contract.
