|
|
This thread is part of my ongoing probe into which countries I can work in.
Long story short, I have arrests but not convictions, which means I have a clean state background check, but an FBI background check that details arrests and charges.
If I apply to Oman will they only require a state/local background check? If they require an FBI check, will they read it critically, realize I have no actual convictions, and let me in? |

There is another thread on this topic over in the general Middle East forum. I never had to provide any kind of police/background check to my Oman employers. They do a "security check" of all employees, but we really don't know for sure what it is that they check or with whom. I suspect that it would only catch convictions for major felonies and/or prison time.
But... it likely depends on your employer too. For instance, I was never employed by the military and they may have different requirements.

Thanks for the nudge in the right direction, OP. Looks like any of the major Middle Eastern countries are worth a shot. Oman and Turkey are of particular interest to me, but they're all intriguing, and hold the potential for decent work at decent pay. |

I have worked in Turkey, indeed we have an apartment in one of the coastal cities there however, the salaries are quite low. Tefl.com is a good place to look to find comparisons in salaries.
Of course you may not be salary driven and I for one would love to work in Turkey again, but the pay is better here in Oman.
my tuppence worth for what it is.

And I have heard the Turkish students, especially the males, are a real handful...not a place for the naive teachers amongst us...
The cash is indeed better in Oman...why even bother with Turkey, it's a holiday place...nothing more?! |
