I am a second year college student looking for a summer job in Japan (June til August). Does anyone have any information regarding short term summer employment be it with ESL or whatnot? I have had great experiences with previous stays in Japan and would love to return. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you're still a student, you can't get a work visa, and that's needed for Americans. Sorry. Summer work is slim enough as it is in Japan for qualified people.

If you don't mind roughing it in the middle of nowhere, there's a place in Tsurui (near Kushiro) in Hokkaido that offers free room and board in exchange for light farm duties etc. It's quite an old building literally in the middle of nowhere, but Tsurui is the home of the Japanese crane and has absolutely beautiful surrounds. The place is called SSJ and if you do a search on Google you should find it. SSJ stands for something in Japanese but I can't remember what exactly, sorry. Also, I believe they'll give you free Japanese lessons. They only acept 3 or so foreigners at any one time, so if you're interested look into it. Terry

do a search on google for summer intern programmes here. it's the only way you'll get a summer job in japan legally as an american student. you're too late to apply for most of them, btw.
