I have been offered a position in Shanghai and am wondering if 20,000 RMB (after taxes) is enough to live on and travel a bit. I am single and the school will be paying for my accommodation. Also, I have no debt to worry about.
Also, if anyone is currently living in Shanghai and wouldn't mind answering a few questions via PM, please let me know.
Thanks! |

When I see posts like this, I always wonder if people are dense or if they are just bragging about their salary.
$3000 US dollars a month for a single guy with basically all your expenses paid (No housing bills, no transportation bills). Can you eat and drink for $3000 a month and still have money left over for a bit of travel? Come on, do the math yourself. Shanghai is no more expensive than any other major city in the world. How much you spend is your lifestyle choice.
If you want a BMW, armani suits, and a high class escort every night, then no, it is not enough. |

I agree with the above assessments. This topic has been covered here ad nauseam. I think it's just a bragging post. |

I think all of us should ignore the next threat that begins like this or the one who begins with the opposite - is 2,000 rmb enough to live on? |

Unless he/she is teaching commercial students 24/7, my pick is a bragger.
It has all the hallmarks - of which 2 are big salary and extraordinary conditions AND low number of posts - 9 in this case. |

He appears to be taking the piss. But he wants us to PM him? Maybe he landed a job at the American School in Shangers, thats pretty much the low end of the salary there. |
