Going there for Golden Week. Anything I should do/see besides the well known tourist spots? |

Might help to know just what you have already planned to see. Go to the thorntree forum on LonelyPlanet.com for tourist info, too. Or JNTO site. |

Perhaps too late to mention, but Wikipedia states the following:
Shikoku is also famous for its 88-temple pilgrimage of temples associated with the priest Kūkai. Most modern-day pilgrims travel by bus, rarely choosing the old-fashioned method of going by foot. They are seen wearing white jackets emblazoned with the characters reading dōgyō ninin meaning "two traveling together". |

ooooh I saw those folks everywhere!! Thanks for the info.
I actually didn't have enough time to make to all the "regular" tourist spots in Takamatsu (btw, Ritsurin Garden is AMAZING).....it's such a beautiful city-the whole island is gorgeous-and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a travel destination for anyone interested! |

Thanks, Sabina. I'll pencil Ritsurin into my calendar! |

Glad you enjoyed it. I used to live on Shikoku, near Takamatsu, for over a year. It was beautiful and scenic, but living there is a different story. Takamatsu is a small, quiet city, I like the smell of the sea. |

Hmm...I enjoyed Shikoku so much that I was contemplating a move there! Would you mind PMing me? I'd be curious to know a little more about living on Shikoku. |

Best thing I saw there was the Naruto whirlpools...took a boat over them and thought we were going to get swallowed up by the ocean! |

It's too late now for your Golden Week, but I went to Takamatsu too and I'd recommend Shikoku Mura as a fun way to spend a few hours. Also, we took the ferry to Naoshima and walked around the Art Project (6 old temples/houses converted into modern art), it's pretty interesting! On your way back I'd also recommend a stop at Okayama, it's a really nice city with a chilled but exciting atmosphere (and some gooood cocktails)! |

thanks for the suggestions!! I can't wait to go back to Shikoku. I actually live right next to Okayama....uhhhh I guess I'm just not a big fan of the Chugoku area. Although if anyone has been to Tottori I'd be curious to know whether it is worth a visit. |
