I always paid $85, sometimes less (in VND), up until mid 2009, but I realized most guys were paying $90, because they didn't hunt around. From then I can't say.

Hmm.. sorry, this will be disappoint a few people.

This visa has been obtained by applying directly to the immigration department by someone in possession of a work permit.

I honestly thought the price was high even for the more 'greased' applications - this one being a totally legit application I thought it was a very high price.

Do the experienced posters think this is a high price for an over-the-counter visa at the immigration office?

Again, apologies, I wasn't intending to get anyone's hopes up!

Yeah, JB, get everybody's hopes up, why don't ya?? Laughing

SPEAKING of that - they have NOT re-introduced the general six-month visa....and the Tay visa crackdown that has begun in October 2009 is STILL going on!!!

What gives??

SHORTLY BEFORE I got here, I had heard that there were easy pickins.....one-year visas....fun and money were to be had....yadda yadda yadda......

....THEN, in about 2005, they had a Tay visa crackdown and started all the rubbish they're doing now!!

....THEN, less than a year later, all was well and back to one-year visas and teaching, ca$h, and fun in the sun!!

.....THEN WE ALL KNOW what happened in October 2009 (besides Facebook being blocked here)!!

The point being - I had heard from SEVERAL posters on this AND OTHER teaching-in-Vietnam websites that this whole phenomenon is SIMPLY CYCLICAL!!!

OK - thass cool....thass fine: But when' the part of the cycle coming back of easy pickins one-year visas for all and all that no-hassle good stuff?

It's been awhile now on the downside of this cycle......
