Hi there, I was lucky enough to get a three year work visa courtasy of AEON, however due to a family death I had to come back to the UK in a hurry (incidently, AEON were very understanding and short of driving me to the airport, they did everything they could for me, which I thought was pretty good of them considering I broke my contract). I didn't have time to sort out a re entry stamp, so I now have the vast majority of a three year visa in my passport with no re entry visa. If I decide to try to go back to Japan, will I be able to get a work/holiday visa? Or am I completely unable to get back into the country until my work visa has expired?

Thank you in advance for your help.

If you didn't have a re-entry permit then the visa is now null and void (even if Immigration failed to stamp it as cancelled on your departure; note that it i.e. that single-entry visa was stamped USED upon your entry to Japan, and only the re-entry permit would've "replaced" that). You won't have to wait another three years to get another, though you will of course have to start the whole application process all over again. But the WHV won't be too slow a route back into Japan (you going to go back to Aeon? Are they keeping the job, or part of it, open for you?).

AEON were nice, but not THAT nice... Or maybe they didn't like me that much?! They haven't kept my job open for me, but they did indicate that they wouldn't hold me breaking my contract against me should I wish to re-apply. Thanks for your help - I was slightly worried that I'd be banned from going back until my visa expired Shocked
