Free and unlimited, up to me to do.
My first uni in China was very miserly and insisted on using both sides of the paper. I once saw a copy of my passport on the back of a work sheet. I wasn't happy.

submit the request at least a week in advance and our school will copy whatever is needed for us. Other than mid term quizzes and final exams I use multimedia rooms for my classes so my paper usage is low.

If anyone has a good argument as to why we SHOULDN'T use both sides of the paper, I'd like to hear it.
Prior to coming to China I worked in government. When new cost cutting measures came into place in the 1990s the first thing to go was paper, and rightly so, there was a huge amount of waste. Reduce paper use whenever possible (more emails/.ppt use) and when you did use paper you were to use both sides. Common sense in my opinion. |

I guess it takes all types to have some god-forbidden issue of duplexing. Wow, 2 sides of the paper having ink - how insane. It's about time books and magazines, as well as newspapers also start printing on only a single side.
hmmmmm
I print my own papers and materials for my students at home at my own expense. My paper is better than that 1000 time recycled gray paper that tears even under slight thumb pressure. Besides, coordinating with office people for copies, getting them, breakdowns, whatever ... I do it at home and know 100% that I have it all prepared, properly, and good paper condition.

I have mine done at the local print shop. The secretaries are never in their office before the first class, and I'm not organised enough to have handouts prepared sufficiently in advance. In addition, their printer is rather slow. If I was staying longer in China, I'd definitely get a printer. It would save a lot of headaches. |

Obviously I did not make myself clear. Of course I support using both sides of the paper, to save trees, energy, water, the whole bit. I do not support indiscriminate reuse of paper that has personal information on it. Surely you can understand that I would be irritated to find a copy of my passport on the back of a student's worksheet in the student's possession?

I make my own copies at the school I work for. Unlimited and free and can splurge by using one side of the paper for anything I feel requires such horrific waste. I also do all my printing for my side jobs there and occasionally give a ream or 5 of scrap paper to a Chinese friend who recycles it for beer money. |

Photocopies are free and unlimited but up to me to do. The machine always seems to break down after 75 copies or so and then it's a struggle to get it to cough up anything. I print a lot of handouts at my own expense only because I can't always get to the photocopy room when it's open. We can also submit our documents to have them copied for free but I'm just not organized enough to get them in weeks in advance. |

My limit is 200 pages ... per semester. For all my classes. Besides, noone in admin, from the bottom to the dean, arrives at work before 10am, so the office is not useful. When they're open, there's a crowd of Chinese English teachers waiting for the one copier/printer. Apparently they have no limit.
This just occured to me, my limit equals about one page per student per semester.
Even if I were organized, I blew my limit in the first week and then some.

Getting better here. I don't do to much copying anymore but had to at the beginning because there was this strong anti foreigner feeling with the Chinese teaching staff. They are supplied with materials from Beijing and don't need to copy anything. Copying the wrong materials can get you into trouble if per chance one of your students must report everything you do in the classroom to your supervisor. I am here to teach speaking and listening so there is little need for me to make copies. I don't use a Lee Yang Crazy English approach in my teaching so there is no need for copies.
Use the blackboard and clean it after you finish and you will be environmentally friendly and stay out of being politically incorrect. |

Copying is free and I do my own. I don't have class Monday morning, so I usually go in Monday morning and do all the copying for the week. It's very convenient. The copy machine we have seems pretty good. I've only seen it have a problem one time and then the guy in the office next door fixed it right away. |

'never a problem why should there be?'
Seven out of thirteen responses report less than optimum copying situations. |

I have to give my copies a week in advance to get them done in time and for free. |
