Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has done interviews with any universities/centers for Sept 2011 start. I've done one with Bell, Interlink Center, and awaiting on HAK for Aramco. Has anyone received a response from any universities? |

Wait until the very last minute, then wait some more. When you think that it is so late that you completely give up on anyone contacting you, someone will call you out of the blue and expect you to be ready within a few days to hop on a plane. This is pretty much the Saudi pattern for hiring, I'm afraid. |

Bigballa,
That's pretty good that you got a response. I also sent my resume to Aramco, and I'm awaiting a response. I heard that's the cream of the crop in regards to teacher benefits.
I did hear back from King Fahd University. I'm a bit excited about that.
Take Care

Kaleem, I heard some good things about KFU and their offers...I think it's much better than Bell and those small centers. I just wished there were more reputable positions in Riyadh. |

By the way, the HAK women recruiting for Aramco told me that they will do interviews again in October. You might want to send your resume in September to get in for an interview... |

BB,
Thanks for the heads up! By the way, if you're trying to go to Riyadh, take a look at this place

A friend of mine is the program manager/recruiter there. I've heard that it's pretty legit.

Why would a person want to go to Riyadh? It is a big, very conservative city with horrendous traffic that all moves at the speed of light. Unfortunately the only thing that moves fast in Saudi is the traffic. Saudi has the highest traffic death rate in the world even though they have long, straight flat roads for the most part.
Riyadh has large numbers of the religious police guys and the likelihood of being accosted by them is much higher than in most of the country. Riyadh is a place to avoid if possible. |

Dear gelynch52ph,
It's all relative - I spent fifteen years in Riyadh, was never bothered by the mutawa'een, and the traffic there is no more - or less - dangerous than in any other big city in Saudi.
Regarding living/working in the Kingdom, I think that probably most "Westerners" would rank locations this way:
1. Jeddah
2. Dammam/Dharhan
3. Riyadh
4. everyplace else - with the exception of Buraidah, which would likely have to come last on just about every list.
Personally, I'd rank Riyadh 2nd or even 1st since I hate humidity, enjoy cool winters, and like the desert more than the seashore.
Regards,
John |

Hey Gelynch,
You're asking why people would want to go to Riyadh? Well, everyone has their own personal reasons so don't just criticize without knowing the reasoning. If you are asking me then it's because I wanted to study under specific Islamic and Arabic scholars there. I hope this is good enough reasoning for you. |

MOD EDIT
If a person likes a relatively modern and progressive city (progressive ONLY by Saudi standards), the Jeddah would be the place. If a person wants to experience what little history and scenery Saudi has then they should go to Najran. |
