| I'm taking my CELTA course in Istanbul this month and there are several Iranians in my class. They say that there are hardly any NETs there and they are some of the sweetest people that I've ever met. I've half a mind to go teach alongside of them. |

The problem is getting jobs there with a legal work visa. I have friends who have traveled around Iran and ran into a few teachers who picked up a short term job in some of the larger cities, but none of them were making a living. I don't see Iran re-opening for TEFLers until there has been a significant change in the system there.
Shame...

When I was in Iran on holiday, I met a French guy who was teaching French in Yazd. Although he had no shortage of students, he told me he'd very likely have to leave Iran soon, simply because his would-be employer were finding it extremely difficult to complete the neccessary paperwork to allow him to get legal residence in Iran.
This was in 2005, and I'd imagine that if anything, the situation has got worse since then. Iran is indeed a fascinating country with wonderful people, but now and for the foreseeable future, it is unlikely to be a viable destination for language teachers. |

| I was invited to do some IELTS testing there but could not get a visa. My fellow-Scot George Galloway seems to have no problems in getting into the Islamic Republic but there you are. Life is unjust. |
