I applied for a job at ECC Foreign Language Institute a couple of weeks ago. I know that the company is going to start holding recruiting sessions beginning in the summer. What I want to know is how long it will take them to get back to me.

Also, if anyone has had any recent experience working at ECC I would really like to read your general opinions about the experience.

It seems like they usually get back to people pretty quickly.

I know about 5 others who have applied and all heard back within a few days; I personally heard back within 2 days or so after initially applying.

No experience working for them yet but I have been hired and will be heading out soon. During the hiring process, ECC was very professional and have been incredibly supportive (way more than I expected, to be honest). I'm glad they got back to me so quickly (both after applying and after the interview), because due to their placements, good word-of-mouth, and awesome vacation package, they were definitely my first choice.

Might I ask when you were hired and where your interview session took place? Did they give you a time frame as to when you'd begin work? I've got to ask because I was hired in ECC back in November, and since then I have received nothing but countless delays in this regard. Originally they *guaranteed* me placement by February, which after I was hired became March, which later became May-July (this itself was due to the Kanto district requesting no new staff, which is apparently the first time this happened, and anyone requesting Kanto, which I did, got left behind), which became February again when I was told there was a "good chance" that drop outs would occur, which again became May-July when no one at all dropped out, and here's the kicker:

Not one week ago I inquired about my status, only to be told that not only was I about to be offered a spot in my number one preference of Kanto the very next day, but that a date was set for mid-July already, and that I should look out for the official email within 24 hrs. Of course, after months and months of waiting, I was simply elated, and spread the news, got excited, started planning... and then not half a day later, I received an email that I thought would be the official offer, but turned out to be a notice that my placement had been canceled due to an oversight by management concerning lack of time to get a visa. I was only yesterday told I would now have to wait until Sept-Oct to depart, while they are recruiting on the "assumption" that schools will need more students, but whether or not this will be the case for certain "remains to be seen." Some vague comments about the aftereffects of the Tohoku disaster were made, but it is not clear exactly what was meant by this.

Like you, I accepted the original job offer because of ECC's notably good reputation. I even skipped out on an Amity interview because I'd just been hired and took them at their word that I'd be placed soon. Granted that it is a business, and businesses have fluctuations, I have never in my life been through such a frustrating and disheartening process. I can only hope that this eventually does come through, and I hope for you and all the other recruits as well. What I'm saying is hold out, definitely hold out, but if you've got other reliable opportunities that you can pursue that will get you to Japan, I wouldn't think twice about pursing them. Maybe I'm just one of the few unlucky ones, I don't know, I'm just telling it like it is.

Unfortunately, I have heard this happening to a couple of people (although I think the one or two others that I read were 2008 hires).

My interview was about a month ago and I received an offer (along with placement) shortly after. I think what they were telling you about Kanto being full is true, because for my session (and the sessions for weeks after it, as well) hiring was only happening for the Kansai and Nagoya areas and this was clearly expressed to us.

I wish you the best and hopefully you will get that September start time. During my hiring session, Kanto was brought up and it sounded like no positions were being hired until September at the earliest, so I don't think they are jumping people ahead of you. That would certainly be a very tough situation.

Does anyone know if ECC still has a multi media center in Osaka?

I don't believe it. The thing is, based on what you're telling me, they apparently ARE jumping people ahead of me. In December, when the bad news about Kanto came out, I specifically requested to make my preferences flexible (not to mention that I had originally put this down at the original interview) and that I would sooner take a placement elsewhere than wait for a Kanto position that might never come. I had been operating under the assumption that NO placements were being made at all since March, and this is, in essence, exactly what I was lead to believe in my correspondences with HQ. So evidently, I've been kept in a jar all this time just in case the Kanto district eventually requests new recruits.

Can you tell me where you were placed and when you are starting? Do you know of others who have recently been placed?
