Hi,
This may sound like a dumb question, but I had trouble finding an answer after searching. If I am buying a plane ticket somewhere as a round-trip... what do I put if I don't know when I want to come back? I mean, what do I put for the return date? Is that date locked in, or would I be able to extend it? |

Depends on the country and the length of time that your visa (or visa waiver entry stamp) is good for.
If you don't want the date locked in (as would happen if you bought on-line) then you will need a full service agent or the airline ticket office and get an "open return" ticket. Return dates are flexible within the validity of the ticket (3 months, 6 months or 1 year). These DO cost more.
The other option is to throw away the return portion of the ticket, pay the penalty for a change or buy 2 one-way tickets (one in and one out) and refund the return ticket after you land (not always possible with on-line or discount tickets).

Another thing, the two one way tickets works well. For example, let's say you're going to Brazil from the UK. Buy one ticket for that way, and another ticket from Brazil to Argentina. Then if you can't refund that ticket, you don't lose as much |

Ah, okay. Thanks for that. I'll do some research on buying two one way tickets/"open return" tickets/change penalties. |
