|
|
Hello!
If you have taught in Taiwan could you please share what the average salary is for outside of Taipei ( I am thinking of going to Taichung) for a non-"cram" school, something smaller or private? And also how much you normally save on average? I know that it can vary greatly but I want to gain a general idea of what I can expect to make as a newbie with a BA and some teaching experience in the States. My friend said he could save 2 to 3K a month, this was a few years ago...is it still possible!? Help meeee
Thank you very much |

Yes, it's possible, since as an anthropologist I make rought 3000 a mos. The little kitty stuff I don't know. I heard it's not as good as MOngolia, though. |

Dude - seriously - WTF are you talking about?
Nobody cares if you're an anthropologist. The OP posted a question directly related to teaching English. How is your comment constructive or helpful?
What is 3000 a mos?
$3,000 US???
$3,000 NT ???
What is kitty stuff?
You deal a lot with cats??
Are you an anthropologist moonlighting as a veterinarian??
Why are you even posting on this board?
Don't you have a 'Taiwanese Anthropologists Board' that you can go and be smug and boring on??

Thank you at least for caring! I should have said more about myself though. I am a relatively recent graduate with a BA and I've always wanted to teach..that plus saving some money would really be great since it's almost impossible here in the states. All this combined with my love of traveling seems like the perfect job! I just don't want to go into it with unrealistic expectations ya know? Anyone who wants to share any info please don't be bashful! : ) |

2 or 3000 NT savings/month should be quite achievable.
2 or 3k $US/month savings is also quite achievable with 60 contact hours a week if you're up to it
If you serious about teaching and being paid well then get your post grad teaching qualification, get state registration and a couple of years experience in the states and you could land jobs like on is-jobs.com and be looking at 35-50/yr plus benefits.
there are private school and state school jobs in taiwan- they actively recruit but you'd be looking at around NT65-75000/month.
perhaps your friend was moonlighting on the side-quite possible to boost your earnings doing some nights at a hostess bar or 'friday club'. |

Most people make 60,000NT a month.
Hard workers earn around 100,000 a month.
People who can sell themselves well can earn a lot more than that. Or start an export business on the side.

OK VeggieMeggie - here goes.
On average - during the months when I am paying tax - I save between 50 and 60% of my paycheque. That is after tax, health insurance, rent, food, utilities - everything.
When my tax contributions end for the year (June Pay in July) I expect to be able to save between 60 and 70% of each pay.
That being said - I'm not a big party guy - I'd rather have some friends over and drink $NT 40 cans of beer than go to a bar and pay almost 4X that much for each pint. Also, I'm good at saving and can set and stick to savings goals so I don't do too badly.
If you were willing to work as much as possible - with a full time job and privates on the side - I guess you might be able to save $NT 60K / $US 2K a month but I think you'd be working very hard to do it. Just my personal opinion.
What you save is entirely dependent on what kind of life you choose to lead. I know guys who make around $NT 70K a month who are always broke by payday and others who send home more than $US 1K every month...
Depends what you're coming here to do. |
