Suggested reading for those newbies seeking to "escape" their home countries and go to China or possibly any other country:

Of course not.
But, I have been seeing an increase in newbies going to China in desperation without any experience or the money necessary to take care of problems when they may happen.

My school has experienced two runners in the past 4 months.
The foreign teachers did not run back home because of anything that the school did.
The foreign teachers ran because they were suffering from culture shock and lack of experience and planning.

Though the OP in that thread seems to have repeated bouts of bad luck.

Places that just require a degree and for you to be a native speaker often get runners though. A friend of mine just quit due to culture shock. In 10 months at one of my schools in CHina, two peopel pulled runners due to never having lived away from home and being promised tons of things.

I abide by a very simple rule in life: If it doesn't make sense, it's not true. It served me well in my former career as a 911 dispatcher and it certainly applies to that thread Laughing
