Just read that I need to get my degrees and CELTA stamped by embassy at home; surely not? Too late now.

99% sure that yes you do. There have been instances where it wasn't necessary when an employer sponsors you (as opposed to getting an independent visa) but you should count on needing them. Can you have the docs mailed to you in Mexico?

I was planning on coming out with the originals; not a good idea? Could I get a job without having my degrees stamped and tell them it'll be done later?

The issue is with immigration and not the job, necessarily. Whether you can be hired before having the papers in order for the work visa, that really depends on the school. Some districts in Mexico are very strict about having all your papers in order before working, others are not so strict.

Did you get your CELTA through IH by any chance? Maybe they can help you locally in Playa del Carmen - closest IH to Cancun as far as I know.

Thanks for the info, Guy. How strict is DF? I've actually got an ICELT but most people don't know what it is...

Well, not all of them, but, yeah, at least the CELTA, or if you have a degree that is directly related to teaching. One will suffice, but you have to have something. The only way around that would be to get a job working for one of the chain schools that issues its own.

Not as strict as some places, but there is probably no place you can get a work visa without something being apostilled. The only exception to that is a document issued here in Mexico. I was just at Migration recently translating for a friend, and when we presented his certificate the first think they asked was if it was apostilled. We pointed out that it was issued here, and they said, oh OK.

Sh*t. Are there any apostille agencies? Can I get a job with the pledge to have it apostilled at a later date?

It doesn't sound like you have much of a choice does it, assuming you already have your flight booked? I don't see why you can't job hunt and have interviews while you wait for the docs to be shipped to you, if you can have someone at home take care of it that is.

Why not treat the wait time as time to explore and figure out where the jobs are and what towns you'd like?

Thanks for you help, Guy. I'm still in Amsterdam right now, I have a Dutch degree in Secondary Ed. and I think I can get it apostilled in time (flying out next week) but the rest of my qualifications won't be stamped. But how many qualifications do the immigration need to give me a visa!? Surely the one I'll have done will be sufficient?

Thanks.

You mentioned wanting to look at international schools in another thread, so your degree in Secondary ed is most important. In fact, if it's a hassle to get the ICELT done, I'd skip it. The degree is enough for immigration.

I read your post in the general forum and I suggest you go to the largest possible city if you are going to be looking at teaching minors. Small town Mexican parents and school administrators do not take kindly to teachers being seen on the wilder side of life.

Yah, I'm not so crazy though, I don't smoke (anything), don't do drugs or hookers, rarely drink and never get drunk. I just like fast motorbikes and women; I'm no hellraiser.

You just need one, but it must to related to the job you are applying to do.

yes your degree needs two things; an apostille issued by the british govt-foreign office, and a stamp by a public notary.
