Looking for opinions on the best place(s) to raise our three year old son. What cities do you feel would be the most beneficial to his future educational and career opportunities. Another concern would be his acceptance by the local children in the host city. He is a US Citizen and has jus sanguinis/right of blood Filipino Citizenship (White American father, Filipina mother). We are also considering having one more child in the future. Thank you for your thoughts.

This is going to sound a bit blunt and is not meant to be rude or disparaging in any way.

Are you able to legally work outside the US (got any qualifications beyond the white face and speaking English and can thus get a work visa somewhere in Asia )

OR

do you have enough of an income package (retirement / assets) to allow you the luxury of not working (international schools can be bloody expensive) while you raise your child.

Your other options would be in the US or the Philippines.

I have two non-teaching BS degrees, a MBA, and am finishing up a 120 hour online and then 60 hour childrens' program. I will likely do a CELTA before actually teaching. Too young for retirement but have a little cash. Currenty waiting for my FBI CRC and my wife's American citizenship papers. I have all my other paperwork ready, transcripts, letters, copies of degrees...

A nice mid sized city in the US would probably be the best place to raise your child or children. You didn't really make it clear whether you are looking for a great place to raise kids or a great place to work where you could also raise kids. Regarding education and adapting to the local environment... for your wife and child the best place would be the US.

I live in a nice midsized city in the USA and have raised two children here, they are now grown. I posted in the Asia forum expecting thoughts related to best cities in SE Asia to raise a child, who is three years old. I wish him to experience another culture and language for a good part of his childhood. Thanks.

Any capital city will have expat and local sub-cultures that welcome people of mixed-race marriages. Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok, Singapore...take your pick. Filipinos in Malaysia are taken to be Malay or some other SE Asian race. Most people don't care what race you are as long as you don't trash-talk their culture.

The capitals of the two states of Malaysia on Borneo have a lot of mixed-race couples (Kuching and Kota Kinabalu). KK is in Sabah, which is peopled by many Filipinos having been under the Sulu Sultanate years ago. If you could get a job in Kota Kinabalu, you would find it a nice city for life.
