I'm fairly new at Dave's but not in EFL/ESL. It strikes me that we use these discussion groups mostly to respond to questions about jobs, but I'd like to propose that one thread include positive comments as to why people work where they do.

I like Istanbul because it's exotic enough that I learn something just about every day, and familiar to the point that I feel comfortable and I don't get homesick.

I like the diversity of people here, and the food and shopping never cease to amuse me - never a dull moment here, even when riding the dolmus to work.

Anyone else feel good about today and want to share something right about being here?

I like learning something new every day too. It happened to me not just daily, but by the hour, in a not-so-exotic place.

... I guess 'exotic' is a subjective paradigm, but I couldn't deny that it can hit a person every hour, rather than by the day.

What is it that grabbed you most about the place?

There's a book by the folks at http://istanbuleats.com/ that you can get at Robinson Crusoe's on Istiklal that I would recommend for exploring the city. It's definitely a great resource.
