only place you can get them, that I know of, is in Bangkok. next time you're in bkk, go to either Boots or else watsons, they sell them there. should be 80 baht for three pairs (6 piece).

As others have said, good luck trying to find earplugs in Vietnam - you'll need it! A friend of mine (who is a very light sleeper) was on the hunt for them for ages and got nowhere. However, I was able to pick some up for her in a quiet town in Borneo no problems Rolling Eyes. If you are really desperate you might want to check out the rifle range at the Cu Chi Tunnels as that might be a possibility. Otherwise you'll have to get some mailed to you or, as bobpen said, just buy a heap of them on your next trip abroad.

You can get ear plugs on Pham Ngu Lao, West of the backpacker area.

West of the Nguyen Trai intersection.

I've been buying ear plugs there for years.

The price is 5,000 Dong per pair.

They are in the "nurse/medical shops that sell wheel chairs, crutches, and canes.

Not great plugs, plastic, but there's a large, semi-Western pharmacy I found on Tran Hung Dao somewhere between Ho Hao Hon and Ng. Van Cu. North side. Were cheap.

By accident, I arrived into HCMC with two pairs of plugs. Their cheap foam ones and still in their packaging (gasp!). Send me a PM if you're interested and we'll figure something out.

awe thanks mate thats awful nice. there is a big package stuffed with construction-worker-grade earplugs on its way from Ireland as we speak. so you should keep that extra pair for yourself, you never know when you might need it Smile

Those two pairs don't include the pair that are (occasionally) in use! I must have really panicked when I first saw this thread.

Nevertheless for future reference, if anyone reads this and is looking for a pair, leave a message.

If anyone has a crate of earplugs arriving, I would happily buy a load from you - I'ma light sleeper, and I can't sleep past about 7am even on days off due to traffic noise.

well theres a package in the post office waiting for me (i have to pay 9000 VND before i can have it) i don't know how many pairs in it but i will happily give you a pair for free if i can spare it. being a light sleeper myself i know how sleep-deprivation can ruin one's day so if i can help with that at all, i will!

Only 9000 VND? Is that the entire customs charge?

I've always been afraid to order anything sent to me here because i assume the PO would demand a big fee to release it to me.

A few years ago I found one drug store here that stocked the cheap foam earplugs from the US. It is the shop on Bui Vien that is on your right, before the intersection with Do Quang Dao, as you walk down Bui Vien from De Tham.

No idea if they still have them, but I have used mine over and over again, dozens of times. The ear plug folks tell you only use it once and then dispose of it, but that's bs.
