We have a global forum because we are global people.

If the mods are offended because we talk about areas outside the narrow definitions, it is not because we are bad, it is not because we lack respect for the mods (who do a great job with the unwelcome flamers et al) but because Thailand is a wonderful country which is well advertised and other opportunities may not be immediately available.

While Thailand (LOS) continues to appeal to me (I am a mountain type), my strengths follow my wallet.

I post simply to remind ourselves that this is the right place to talk about what seems to be the best place for the OP to pursue her goals. I certainly would not want to pursue a PhD in Hawai'i if I could help it.

The bureaucracy... Oh, the Humanity!

Thanks to everyone who commented. So far I have received a job offer in Singapore (which I turned down because they wanted me to share a bedroom with another lecturer), and have an interview with a place in Bali coming up, although I haven't heard the best things here about that employer.

I was accepted to the PhD program but have put it off for a year, and possibly forever. I just don't see it bringing any kind of return at the moment.

Currently I've decided to bite the bullet and start applying to work at universities in Korea, as I've realized the most important thing at the moment is to get out of debt and get some more experience.
