|

Anyone know if the housing offered by Uni of Nizwa for a couple would have a patio and carport? And how many bedrooms would it have? We are hoping to have an outside area after living in an upstairs apt for 4 years with no balcony. I would love to have a patio for BBQ and a carport to wash and care for my car. Thanks for any help. |

Methinks you are being a tad unrealistic about housing in Nizwa. Some teachers at unizwa are housed in Izki in flats.
dubai or miami this place is not... |

UV,
Get you facts straight, we live in a very detached house rented out by Unizwa thank you very much. A little less generalisation and a few more hard facts coming from you would be very very refreshing. C'mon, who you kidding. Firq, Nizwa, Birkat al Mouz comes before Izki. I agree there are one or two places there but the teachers living there do so by choice.
Heyjoe,
It is not the norm for the Uni to offer houses, yet there may be one or two available, just make sure, as we did that Mr M knows your preference for a house. If he cannot get you one then you can find your own and if your housing allowance stands it, you can rent yourself.

By whose choice?
How about some facts regarding the questions of patios and carport/garage? Do you have those amenities?

I had all of the above, and vegetable gardens and a completely detached kitchen big enough for parties. And a rooftop terrace. In a detached, walled villa. It was about 5 K, at the most, from the uni. I had to find it myself and do a little convincing, but in the end, I had the kind of housing you describe, paid for with my housing allowance. If you find something your allowance doesn't cover, but you love it, negotiate the rent (I did) and kick in the difference. Do not depend on the housing office to find you something wonderful- they have the whole faculty to manage. Find someone who knows the place and go driving around on your own. It can be done.
Someone told me befor I went there that I had to be my own advocate and go after what I needed. It was great advice. Don't let others tell you what you can or can't do. Find out for yourself. |

Post photos at once of said detached house, otherwise how can we believe what you say.
Either way, you are beginning to sound like Mcbeath or one of those oil/power workers now with a drinking problem. Think I'm done here...
GL to you whatever you decide. |

I guess, being a place where anonymity is expected, showing photos of one's house would be a dicey proposition. Especially as I sense more than a tad of hostility. It is a small town, after all.
If you don't believe what we have said here, then contact the university and housing director and ask them. Check with HR. I have had my issues with the university admin, even with housing, but fair is fair, and they treated me more than fairly with housing. |

Hey Joe
When I arrived here, I lived for 3 months in an apartment. Nice, clean, no issues. However, right from the first contact, I had suggested that I wanted a villa.
I just kept driving around, looking at houses, talking to locals about houses, and finally found one with plenty of quality rooms and room. Brand new, gorgeous, and negotiated with the UoN as to my own contribution towards the rent, as it is more than the UoN pay.
Its not a simple process, a bit frustrating sometimes, but you have to stay positive.
Its not Dubai, Miami, or the Riviera, but you can make it a proper home! |

Wow... that was uncalled for... not to mention bizarre, as Isabel is a woman. And I know that for a fact.
