|
|
Maybe some of our posters who work for HCT in RAK or FUJ could comment on the current rumors I am hearing from colleagues.
The current scuttlebutt is that HCT in FUJ is short like 30 teachers/ RAK is short like 10 and other campuses are being asked for 'volunteers.' The 'volunteers' would get an immediate 2000 to 3000 AED salary increase, be given a "fully furnished flat" and still get to keep their flats in the emirate they are from. So for example if teacher A works for Dubai mens, but takes the transfer, he/she will keep their flat in dubai, and get a fully furnished one in Fuj, while getting a 2 to 3k salary increase.
Sounds like a pretty good deal for current teachers... does this mean they are also increasing the # of hires? Inquiring minds want to know. |

The 'inconvenient truth' here is that HCT has gone from being one of the bext employers and colleges in the Gulf to the worst. It has achieved this remarkable transformation in a period of just a few years, since Dr TK became the big boss about five years back.
Now, due to all the well-deserved negative publicity about the place (click on the www button below if you're not aware) teachers are leaving by the camel-load and nobody wants to go work there. As evidence of this, just the other day I received a PM from somebody who initially applied to work at HCT TWO YEARS AGO, and only just last week received notice of an interview. In other words, they're really scraping the barrel in looking for new recruits.
I would AVOID the place big-time, and as I'll be retiring soon, I can afford to do so. Others who are not here should read the very obvious writing on the wall and seek employment elsewhere! |

I'm confused... if they are transferred to RAK or FUJ, why would they want to maintain their flat in another Emirate? Or is it being presented as a temporary transfer?
And I would think that recruitment for Abu Dhabi is even worse as it is the eye of the storm. It is obviously time for "the family" to step in and clear out the top management in "Central Services" if they want to keep this system viable. Promote him up to a position where he can't completely muck something else up... or better, convince him to retire early.

The pretty bad part of this deal is that they will still be working for HCT.
Based on my recent experience in Fujairah I find the rumor of such a shortage of faculty quite credible. I personally know several teachers who are leaving this summer.
HCT have dug their hole so deep that I don't think they'll ever get out of it.
They just suck on every level.

That is why I am asking... I left HCT this last year so I am not fully in the loop.
I was hearing that it is supposed to be "temporary," but the idea of getting a 3,000K pay raise, and a second flat that you can stay in, or commute to and fro.... |

But if your spouse andchildren can continue to live in an Emirate with adequate schooling and you commute on weekends, I can see where it might be desirable to those with families |

I see this as the best case scenario...

Come on It's Scary... not everyone who disagrees with you slightly should be accused of being a member of management. Read the other posts from this screen name. I don't see it... at all.

Really?!? I can't think of a single soul at HCT (or CERT, where KW, I suspect, works) who would dare utilize the verbiage "sweet deal"! And, that's up to and including a well-balanced South African there.
The only people who would use such wording is someone trying to make the system attractive.
Which it hain't.

Careful IS... you know who is watching...
The fact is that, bad as it is, there are still a lot of people around the system who are managing well enough and are not yet thinking of leaving. I know of some in RAK and some in Al Ain... it's a big system with lots of people with lots of different opinions.

'there are still a lot of people around the system who are managing well enough and are not yet thinking of leaving'
You caught me V.S. I aint no management stooge or brown-noser; I'm just one of those who are getting along just fine thank you.
Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, I dunno but I'm one of the few on here who is actually working in the HCT system and who is quite happy to stay in it.
Seems to me It's Scary and his/her buds, if they actually work for HCT, would be better off hitching their wagons and leaving the rest of us to 'suffer in silence'.
Personally I think the offer of an extra couple of thousand and a furnished flat is a good deal...............hell you could even ask for gas money if they're that desperate!
Whether HCT cant or wont hire the extra staff they apparently need I dunno but whatever the reason it could mean lots of overtime, greater job security and more bargaining chips for those of us who are happy to tread water and keep our heads below the parapet. |
