MEB, I hear you dude.

I feel for you.

We're on the same side.

PDs? I go, I sit there and nod at the right moments.

Conferences, I sit there and nod at the right moments to the words of the wise, enjoy the free lunch and marvel at the lazer show.

Either way, it's curtains for you, as you have been SUSPECTED of being unfaithful to HCT, and that's not allowed. Mere suspicion is enough to get you canned in the Land of Make-Believe - a bit like Alice's Wonderland, but without the nice rabbits."

This very paranoia is what got a half dozen shown the door last year with just two days to go until summer break. Worked us like whores they did. And, in the end, thought that they were being brilliant by snatching our careers from us just before a well-deserved break that we had earned. Real vindictive, eh?

Why? There are some blogs that they felt sure was coming from the inside. Were some people contributing? I don't know. I sure as heck knew that I didn't bite the hand that fed me.

My biggest "blunder" was letting it be known that I wasn't going to re-sign when my current was up. If it is negative to admit that you are going to fulfill your agreements, then, Yes, republocrat, we've slipped through the Looking Glass.

But now that I'm a "free agent", I have the right to see the system as I see fit and to remark about my feelings towards what is clearly a broken institution that is being driven into the ground.

Sure, you can get all kinds of new blood. But I, too, have heard of the runners and people enforcing their probationary period and just pulling up barely pound-in stakes.

You might find a hole in the system and get comfortable, but more than likely, if you have, then your've become the "good teacher"...and EVERYBODY knows what THAT means.

I would say not to cut it out... but to cut oneself out. Get the hell out of Dodge... move on to bigger and better things... or at least different. Laughing

I found my tolerance for these places had about a two contract limit and then I resigned and moved on to the next one. Of course this is easy to do if you are single.

Yes! Sell out quality time with your kids for a few more shillings in your pocket. I am not aiming any disdain towards you helenl, you're a quality poster, but rather towards HCT where, it is believed, lives can be bought and sold.

It's a corrupt and horrible system that is, surely, reaping its rewards. One can only hope that Tubby will get a tap on his shoulder soon and be "promoted" somewhere else within HESN's world.

I suggest "Doorknob Polisher Emeritus"...

Sure, but if it's a choice between being voluntold that you will be teaching in RAK or FUJ and uprooting your family to an emirate with what you consider to be inadequate educational institutions. It's a pragmatic choice. I've known families who have sent their children to boarding school in order to remain employed with the HCT system. With this choice, they get more money and spend time with their children and spouse from late Thursday to early Sunday on a weekly basis. I'm not saying it's a good choice, but it's an alternative to seeing one's family at major holidays only.

The main deal with HCT'ers or my experience(s)with the ADMC lot is that they actually believe they are in an academic environment-dream on.The point about sending their kids to boarding school is a sad reflection that there's not much for them to go back to in their "home'countries. Most of these parents that send their kids back to boarding school(or "bored in school"to be more accurate) are really copping out big time. Why have kids in the first place if you're gonna unload them back home?Mind you the way fees are rising in most of the 'quality"schools in the UAE it's probably worth thinking about. Then again....we may have to FUJ the issue (geddit?)and RAK our brains to find an answer.

Really? I thought it was because they wanted their children to have a good education and a good chance at entering the university of their choice and that this way the parents could afford to send them on to higher education.

At least that was the intent of the parents I know. HCT can't control the quality of K-12 educational institutions in whichever emirate (or whether your child can be enrolled there) - from my perspective, it was the choice of the lesser of two evils.

Is it a choice that you might make? Maybe not. Is it a choice some parents feel is best given the circumstances - has been the case.

But I have yet to confirm this rumor from friends in AD, Sharjah, Dubai, Fujairah or RAK. But then most bugged out on June 16th so may not be aware of it.
