My wife and I have been offered a position there. Pay and accomodation looks good so far. Just curious if anyone has had any experience with this school.
Any Guangzhou advice is welcome, too.
Thanks |

guangzhou's a great place, but phoenix definitely underpay
if u think it's acceptable, go for it, but for the number of hours
and the extra stuff a private school will inevitably make u do, phoenix's
advertised salary is really low |

Hi,
Has anyone applied, or been offered a contract for Phoenix Int'l School this year?
Looks like a beautiful campus, free housing/meals and decent salary.
Let me know! |

I work at Phoenix right now, in the international section. I like it, it's a great challenge and I adore my kids to pieces. The conditions (salary etc) is comparable to Wall Street, which I worked at last year- so with NORMAL working hours nights and evenings free is HEAVEN! Free meals (take or leave like I usually do). Can't say much about the evening events, though we hardly have any in our section. We had 1-2 performances at night in the whole semester last term, so nothing really, and we have an annual performance coming up in the next couple of weeks, the only evening asked of us this term. Might be different in the other sections (there's several they might ask you to work in).
I think some other teachers are unhappy for whatever reasons, but I've been in China 8 years now and it doesn't get much better than this. We do still have to push to get told things, the usual Chinese problem, and the worst thing is the CRAPPY apartments. They do offer a meagre allowance if you want to rent outside, which I'm seriously thinking of doing next contract. The FAO can be hopeless but nice enough.
The general area is really nice though- subway, Maccas, new Starbucks opening soon, as with Pizza Hut, and teachers get FREE buses to Guangzhou (1/2)! PM for any more info needed. |

Still here and still getting better.
There's a lot of active progress... Expansion is key to it all.
When the lady first posted here four years ago, it was certainly a different animal.
PM if interested.
Cheers~ |
