Sorry, Captain - Counselor Troi's in Albuquerque, NM June 24th, 25th, and 26th, attending the Albuquerque Comic Expo (but I'll convey your regards to her
Very Happy Very Happy)

"But it was Marinas riveting portrayal of Deana Troi, the psychic counselor, for seven years on the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as her co-starring role with Patrick Stewart in the feature films Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: First Contact and in the most recently released, Star Trek: Insurrection that has brought her legions of fans throughout the galaxy."

Right you are!
Hopefully, we have saved many people their money and time, by giving them the reality of IAT/Kaplan and HCT.
For those who are still contemplating working for them, only sign on if your life depends on it. Otherwise, find a more reputable place to work. Even a Toyota assembly line would be better!

AMEN, JCB.

After my nightmare at HCT I dream of a Toyota assembly line job...hell, I'll sweep their floors.

Garbage men are currently refered to as "Sanitation Workers, and,

postal workers are considered "Insanitation Workers"! Laughing

Well, I've just received the famous "Krapland" recruiting treatment myself.

Left hanging for weeks after the first successful interview, then contacted again via email, then ignored again, then when a second interview was finally set up the interviewer called fifty-five minutes later than the mutually agreed time.

The whole impolite rigmarole didn't exactly inspire confidence that Kaplan/IAT would be particularly caring or organized employers to work for, and needless to say I didn't take the final call.

The management at Krapland is downright obnoxious and rude. They actually think they are doing you a favor! Honestly, they have no respect for teachers at all. We are simply a commodity for them, for which they can buy and sell as they please. You are very lucky you didn't sign on with them, because you would have spent a lot of your own money only to have left them in the end. Wise choice my friend.

Yes, John, I think you are probably correct.

Apart from their lack of professional courtesy during the recruitment process, I was extremely concerned about being saddled with a huge amount of debt to them in relation to the accommodation allowance.

This debt is a Sword of Damocles hanging over your head. Put one foot wrong and you are out on your ear with a huge sum of money to repay before you can exit stage left.

Thanks but no thanks.

That is right Lowlander. They entice you with the relocation allowance but what they don't tell you, the accommodation in the UAE is very expensive.
You will pay for all your appliances, curtains, rugs and furniture. If you decide you find the academic standards substandard (and you will), and leave or even get fired, you will have to repay the relocation back. They will take it out of your salary. They have no regard for your professional input on academic matters, they will find you in contempt which will land you on their black list. Their contracts are clad tight. It is a government contract, so there is no recourse when things go bad for you. I assume that is why their staff is maltreated. In addition,You don't get paid for overtime. Basically, you are at their beckon call. Also, they force you to work a summer school shift-a split shift! You did well Lowlander to avoid the place like the plague.

Aristotle, among other certain scribblers of the time, recommended the golden mean; meaning a central passage taking into account thus the good and the bad of any given thing must be accounted for; ( this is of course what Aristotle says himself so it must be ....erm...what he says)
Not many good posts on the topic but:

I thought that was usual being an amortized loan over the period of the contract or is accommodation furnished in The UAE?

Thought that was standard on any uncompleted contact in the UAE ???

Is that day/night or morning afternoon/ afternoon evening.
Totally a NO NO !!!
No over time pay.... no work, end of story. You sell your labor as Groucho Marx once said and then check your contract for the SANITY CLAUSE. (everybody knows there ain't no Sanity Clause)

HCT to be fair phoned me twice and emailed me for an interview. Unfortunately the first time they phoned only the dear old finger wagger was at home; and the second time was a minute before I was about to give one my locally famous "Promotional Presentations' viz "Roll UP, Roll UP!!! Everrrrry Ones a WINNER!!!!
So the guy had to be very politely but curtly put off. Result= Silence
Can't blame them really as I suspect they are not used to being put on hold. (boot, foot. other) Make a sentence (Deux Point)

As for IAT I had a very polite amiable inquiry as whether I would be available after my initial decision not to interview. The fact is that the package there or actually in most of the ME is not worth a life change(as dear old VS noted sagely before in sector 4, warp speed 9, on your left after the Nebulae, please do a search) The only consideration for me is the school allowance and then it doesn't cover that and the quality and the desert and the mall culture and the desert and and and .....
I earn more comparatively in lovely downtown Himavant next to the sea and mountains and that's worth 10 grand at least particularly if you work with me, which of course I do.
Our company was taken over by the synonymous evil empire but I have managed to hold out against them as we are a separate center providing a specialist niche (Pre-masters study)
Oh keep the dogs far hence(or with their nails they'll dig you up)
On the whole this is achieved by not taking the whole thing seriously and backing it up administratively which is Byzantine AND doing your usual excellent job. My colleague (a Canuk so it must be TRUE) reckons that they fed in the usual profile characteristics of an education Corporation and the result was......PSYCHOPATHIC !!!!!!!!

Take it easy
And don't be sad.
Just be glad
That some day
your life'll be touched
By Mr K

Scott47; The engines gannae BLOW !!!!!!!
VS, That's right SCOTT, here's a knapkin, but before you use it please, please do a search before the we go into hyper-warp. so many could suffer
JS; D She is right right, as ever ,Live long and Prosper Dude!
Mr K. Agh Maaannn he beamed me up and I'm in the NUDE!!??

Poem on the Leaving and Retirement of a certain GENTLEMAN lately delayed in the Land of Arabia and his much expected return along the HIGH road(Praise God) to the land of his forefathers to claim his citizenship AND his BUS PASS

I wish I could be,
Just like Aristotle
And just give up the bottle
And never have another smoke
When management makes want you to choke
Oh what a life I'd have
Just like a simple lovely Chav
And never have to clean up
After a denouement in the Lav
Oh Brave heart give me courage
And VS give me Sage
And Mr Slat, Oh please
The wisdom of our age,
For some may scoff and wonder
At the folly of it all
Be glad you can retire
To Scotland, Bute or Rockall.
Where maidens tend the elderly
And the elderly play the flute
And say it friend, oh say it
And say it once again
That friends are where we find them
And there is absence when they leave (RIP Mr Jones)
For the wisdom that we have
Is all that we receive
From friends and..... our communities
Most precious and so wise
(minus all the cant and downright bloody lies)
All madness from us flies
And no mans' on his knees.
And each can count his Fleas.
Alba gu brth

Dear Mr. K,

What can I say? You take my breath away. And though I'm old and grey, your post has made my day (but not in a Dirty Harry sort of way.)

Oi vay, Mr. K, how agilely you play with words that sing and sway. You're magical and fey, so please on Dave's do stay.

Regardez, s'il vous plat,
John

It is a 3 year contract. If you decide to leave before the contract expires, then repayment of the loan does not take place until after completion of the first year. Mind you, the contract stipulates a probation period of 6 months or longer which is at the discretion of management!

A pal of mine tells me he's starting a blog about Kaplan and IAT. Something like 'Welcome to Krapland'?!

All contributions will be very gratefully received, I believe.

Ah, a companion for "HCT Sucks."

Best of luck exposing the truth about these so-called educational institutions.
