I have been reviewing a contract from Joy children's language school Harbin.
Everything in the job post and contract seems fairly straight forward and above board. But on looking for reviews on the internet I have found some less than favorable comments and wondered whether anybody else could shed some light on this. Previous employees or anyone who has heard anything through the grapevine. |

I don't work there and never have, but I know a lot of people who do work there.
For the most part, people seem more or less happy. As you already know you'll be working exclusively with children. Weekdays are pretty laid back but weekends are hectic.
I think they might have over 20 FT's. There seems to be a lot of camaraderie among them. I often see large groups of Joy teachers coming to the bar together.
Personally I would never work there because I don't like kids. |

I have worked for JOy for 5 and a half years. Two and a half in Harbin and three in Shenyang. I read that blacklisting thing. It was done by an employee who didn't lock his door and had some stuff stolen then complained.. That was something that happened even before I worked there. As a place for a new teacher, it is an awesome place to work. There is a very strong support system and so long as you are responsible and do your job, you'll be fine. |

dont put a lot of stock in these online "reviews." more often than not they're made by some disgruntled former employee who failed to carry out their end of the contract (which is almost always left out of said "review). and for every bad reviewer there are a larger number of people who had good experiences with the same school, you just never hear from them (the post above mine being a rare, and welcome, exception). |

A million trillion jobs in China. Like 7969 said, it is rare that people post about good schools.
No news is good news, most of the time.
And while it rings true that anyone can write anything about anyone, I would consider one person's complaint as simply that: a complaint.
But if there are multiple complaints from multiple people about the same school, I never forget the following saying:
Better safe than sorry.
If there is simply one warning about a school, it is quite possible that the teacher didn't cut the mustard. But when a huge horde have beefs....
Does the school have just one or two complaints, or a whole pile of them?
This is what you need to ask yourself.
I worked for Joy many, many years ago in Taiwan and they seemed fine. On the Mainland, I cannot say...
Good luck. |
