I was just wondering if anyone knows how hard it is to get a spouse working visa. If picked for the NET Scheme my wife would like to work in HK as well. Thanks |

If you have a work visa, your spouse does not need any visa at all.Land at the airport, and start working No permission is required!Enjoy. |

I worked here via my wife's NET visa for seven years, until I was able to become a permanent resident (no visa needed anymore!). When you get your NET job they put a visa stamp in your passport; your wife goes along at the same time and gets her passport stamped too. Job done. You have to go back to immigration every one or two years (as per your contract) to renew it. |

Thanks for the information! This is one less thing to worry about. I was worried it would involve some crazy bureaucracy. |

Yes this is true, but there is red tape and it is not as simple as CHAMP suggests.

If you have a NET contract then you apply for a work visa for yourself.
When you fill out the form you will see the section that also asks you to list your dependents, wife/husband/children.
You get the stamp in your passport which states that YOU as the NET are on a work visa and the dates will be noted for your contract. Your wife/children will also get a stamp, but this will be as "dependent."
Your dependents and yourself need to get your ID cards from immigration. These take a couple of weeks but once you lodge application you are given temporary ID's until the cards are ready.
Only when your wife has the ID card (temporary or the real thing) can she apply for work on her dependent visa.
If you are in and out of HK for holidays / going up to China etc. then you just use your ID card to enter Hong Kong as all your details are stored on the electronic chip on the ID card - the type of visa you have and the date when the visa will expire. If your wife secures a job which offers sponsorship, then she could change from a dependent visa to a work visa. If she remains on the dependent visa, and you renew your contract after two years, then you will have to apply again for your wife to get dependent visa. You will be the sponsor for her. You can't just "land at the airport" and get a job with no visa or no ID here in Hong Kong. |
