I would never join the army, the only way anyone would get me to pick up a gun if the English were invading and kicking down my door. |

But they pretty much all require some combination of hard work, personal effort, creativity, perseverance, social skills, etc. None of which seem to feature very highly in SG's self assessment. |

Most jobs do require those

Though it IS possible. I met a guy who had done it for 13 years throughout SE ASia. Parents were poor as well |

Hi NG. Yes, but I'll bet he didn't make a living out of it! And almost for sure, he would have had to write bull$$$t to please his editor/s. |

No, he did make a living. Maybe he got lucky because he was older with experience and got into it long ago, but that's what he did. I met him while he was on Sabatical in Peru and was planning on going back to HK, but his dad got sick so he went back to England. |

| I like the idea of your lifestyle, I became addicted to travel a few years back and have made sure I travel for at least 4 months every year. It's not easy though, I have to quit jobs to go away and then come back and start all over again. I've made money online from various different methods but none are long term and have all fizzled out eventually. Need something more long term which is why I'm currently going down the TEFL route, see how I find that and use it as a means to go abroad and work and live for a while and try and enjoy the country in my time off. |
I had that idea as well originally but eventually I saw sense and realised it wasn't practical. Doing any decent travelling requires money and to make money you need to show employers that you're serious. Cutting and running every 4-6 months may work for a while but eventually it'll catch up with you. The temporary "office junior" style jobs which you got when you were in your early 20s won't be offered to you when you're 30 or over. Also by changing countries all the time you'll miss out on a lot of the benefits of it: making a set of local friends, learning a new language and you'll forever be at the bottom of the food chain in whatever industry you choose.
Not only all that but going back to the UK skint once or twice after a long trip is depressing but having to do it several times is really soul destroying. |

Good for him then, but that makes him one of a very small, elite group. Most travel stuff is written by mainstream journos to offset the cost of their holiday, or by people who are happy to do a piece voluntarily just to get their name in print. Then there's making the connections with editors ... the list goes on. For most, it's at best a way of making a bit of money now and again. |
