In many countries you need to have the job lined up first before you travel there, but I have heard many stories how people were hired face to face- so it's good to travel to the country first, then look for work. (than again, i could be wrong..). Sometimes companies will fly you over, so paying for travel is not an issue- but that's not always an option
As this is a crowd that loves travel, are there any books or sites you would recommend on where and how to find the cheapest air line tickets?

Thanks

I use kayak.com and check it religously, morning, noon , and night when looking for flights.

It depends on the country whether they want face to face interviews first. And the employer. What places are you looking at?

Skyscanner.com

I've only used it to line up European flights, but it looks through all the discount airlines.

And check ticket prices late Tuesday or early Wednesday since many airlines announce sales/price changes on Tuesdays.

Titanic Explorer:

Like naturegirl, I'm also wondering which countries/overseas employers you're targeting. It seems that Skype has become quite popular as a way to interview face-to-face; it's obviously cost effective for the employer but especially for the applicant. You take a financial risk by showing up in a country and perhaps not getting hired. Of course it helps to have actual job leads versus cold calling. Either way, don't forget to factor in hotel, food, and ground transport costs if you do decide to travel overseas for your job hunt. Make sure you have a solid plan including enough money in case things don't work out.

I've been using farefox.com for years to find cheap flights. Also, flying on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is typically cheaper but not always. Momondo.com will show you prices on international flights for an entire month.

It's often better to check airline websites.

Since there is no middleman (like on Travelocity or Orbitz), the airfare can be cheaper.

Last year, I bought my round-trip ticket to the Philippines through the China Airlines website. It was priced only $750! (It would usually cost around $850 or more.)

Of course, it's best to buy airline tickets during off-peak travel seasons.

Cool

I like http://www.hipmunk.com/ because of their way of laying out all the options in a way that enables you to compare not only price but also schedule, traveling time and stopovers.

However they don't always show all the possibilities. After finding some flights on hipmunk.com that look good, I check out the corresponding airlines' websites and sometimes find something better.

Wow, I've jotted down some of those other sites and will give them a try this winter.
