I have been hired to teach English at one of the branches of the Vietnamese National University in Hanoi starting this fall. They have arranged a long-term visa, but other than that I haven't been able to get much information out of them about the nature of the work. Can anyone tell me what to expect? When does the fall semester start? Do teachers of English at VNU typically work only at one campus or do they move between campuses? I'm supposed to have 12 contact hours per week, but is that typically 3 days at 4 hours per session, 4 days at 3 hour sessions, etc? I assume each class meets only once a week (is that true?). Finally, do the universities have a set curriculum in English or is it whatever I can come up with? I have plenty more questions, but I'll leave it at that. Anyone out there know someone familiar with VNU who can help me?
thanks

I know that communication is not a strong point in Vietnam, but this university should be able to answer at least some of these questions. |
