A, hopefully final point (because this discussion is very painful for me) that I would like to make, it that their treatment of candidates is EXTREMELY First-Class and they go as far as paying you per diem for bothering you to fly to them and be chauffeured around on their dime...as well as being put up in first class digs.
An incredible company to get the chance to work for.
Absolutely 1st Class.

Just thought that I would mention that there are a few other jobs paying that much. There are a couple universities in Hong Kong that I know were paying the equivalent to US$7000 plus a beautiful 4 bedroom flat overlooking the water plus all the other usual perks of the ME jobs... and that was during the 90s.
You need a high power CV to latch onto the jobs like this...

That's interesting. What would they consider to be a high power CV? Where do they post their jobs (or are these jobs discovered by networking only)?

You got to have a long life in the region, you have to have the correct degree, you got to answer all the questions right and you got to know how to deal with the population as I discussed on another thread.
Basically, you gotta know your $hit. If you don't, you're sniffed out rather quickly and not given an offer.
I had the "right stuff", but not the "right blood pressure", but, that's what Saudia will do to you after years of the biting of tongues.
Ironic, eh?

Well, IS, for what it's worth, I'm sorry the deal didn't work out for you.

Well, I have to say that it just wasn't meant to be. As the Muslims say, good or bad, "al-Hamdillah". It was just not to be. Am I bitter?...I think that I've made my feelings clear.

These jobs don't have to advertise a lot as people don't leave very often. And yes, often current teachers recommend that friends with the right stuff be considered. But, basically they want to see an extensive CV with the right experience, conference presentations, publications... you get the drift.
Over the years I have seen a few ads on TES... probably at IELTS because the institutions are rather... British leaning. The teachers that I have known normally stay(ed) there 10-20 years - because they tend to hire older experienced teachers, they then normally stay until retirement.

Thanks Yrsammit but my question relates to whether Aramco is finally offering direct hire positions or not. Rumours of direct hire have been circulating for a long time but it was always just a carrot to attract people and rarely materialized. A few lucky people were transferred to direct hire now and again but it was the exception rather than the norm.
|
I can't answer definitively, but I know a few people who are contracted that say they will soon become direct hires because of some new policy. This might affect new hires as well - I'm sure you could email someone in HR to ask for clarification. |

| Teachers working for some contractors have been informed that they have ZERO chance of direct hire. Admin want fresh meat, untainted by previous contact with Aramco Contractors. |

Well, they just might need to get more fresh meat than they had anticipated.
It will be interesting to see how many of the loyal, 'contractor-employed' members of staff (some with over 10 years experience and higher qualifications than the newcomers) will react when they see the new arrivals, being whisked from the airport to their luxury homes in Aramcoville...... these same people who have been promised the elusive direct hire positions 'next contract InshAllah' for many years. Some may take it as just another example of unfair treatment they have long become accustomed to. For others, it might be the straw. Only time will tell.
Don't get me wrong. I think the new people coming in deserve every riyal they get and the best of luck to them. It's time all teachers were treated like many of the other professions in Aramco and offered direct hire jobs. |
